2 weeks: If you have been using desonide twice daily for 2 weeks, you should take a break for at least 2 weeks before resuming. As a rule of thumb, 2 weeks is the maximum number of days in a row to use twice daily topical steroids. If you are using topical steroids only once daily, then you may use them for a month. Eye Pressure check!: Desonide is a topical corticosteroid that may cause your intraocular pressure to increase, resulting in glaucomatous nerve damage. If you need to use the ointment long-term, see an ophthalmologist after two weeks of use to determine if your eye pressure rises, and obtain a baseline visual field study along with a complete eye exam. Allergies: Likely allergies. The redness will persist as long the offending agent is present unless your child is on an antihistamine -then it should get better fairly rapidly. An aside, topical steroids ( i.e. Desonide) should not be placed around the eyes or mouth unless specifically directed by your physician. ...Read more
