Is dessicated thyroid T4 comparable to synthetic t4?

Is dessicated thyroid T4 comparable to synthetic t4?

Yes, but des. Has T3 (liothyronine): T4 is the same exact chemical whether it is from dessicated or synthetic thyroid. However, dessicated thyroid also has the T3 (liothyronine) form of thyroid, which is available in synthetic form but not found in pills with t4. See http://thyroid. About. What should I do about the side effect of my tablets of dessicated thyroid?

Change thyroid med: Hypothyroidism, underactive thyroid, is always treated the same way. Find a thyroid supplement that is well tolerated and find the right dose (may take months) that brings you into a euthyroid (normal) state, then check levels every 6-12 months, to make sure, new dose is not needed. Are dessicated thyroid pills more beneficial than levothyroxine pills for hypothyroidism?

Are dessicated thyroid pills more beneficial than levothyroxine pills for hypothyroidism?

Who you ask: Most endocrinologists, don't prescribe dessicated thyroid hormone. Pills have inconsistent concentrations of t3, (liothyronine) though I understand it has improved. The body is still able to make its own T3 (liothyronine) out of the T4 used in levothyroxine preparation. This process occurs outside of thyroid gland also. Having too much T3 (liothyronine) on board can make one hyperthyroid with both short and long term complications. ...Read more

Thyroid is slightly under active. I take 15mg of dessicated thyroid. I can feel a lump in thyroid area. Go asap to doctor or can it wait a couple weeks?

Go Soon: First, dessicated thyroid hormone is rarely used anymore & most docs, especially for a slightly underactive thyroid would use LT4 (thyroxine) and if necessary & experienced in its use add T3 (liothyronine) if needed. A new lump could be anything from a simple cyst under the skin, a growing thyroid cyst to a thyroid nodule needing eval. If it grew fast enough to notice a change it need evaluation! ...Read more

Should a person with hyper thyroidism take typical thyroid medication like Synthroid (thyroxine)?

Should a person with hyper thyroidism take typical thyroid medication like Synthroid (thyroxine)?

Usually not: Usually, a person with hyperthyroidism has too much thyroid hormone in her body. One would take Synthroid (thyroxine) (synthetic hormone) to make up for a lack of enough thyroid hormone due to HYPOthyroidism. A person with HYPOthyroidism who becomes hyperthyroid due to taking too high of a dose of Synthroid (thyroxine) might be asked to take Synthroid (thyroxine) (at a lower dose) even though she is temporarily hyperthyroid. ...Read more
