Helps with itching: Triamcinolone=steroid is sometime combined with antifungal cream to help with severe itching/irritation (inflammation). Steroid itself does not treat the ringworm. Lamisil, lotrimin, or tinactin (tolnaftate) are available otc and are often adequate to treat commom skin fungal/ringworm infections on skin (not beard/scalp areas). No (very short!): The concentration of triamcinolone (tac) is too high. For the face, concentrations should be 0.025 or less of tac. Problems that occur if you use this high concentration is thinning of the skin and steroid acne. Usually no higher that 2.5% (hc)hydrocortisone (or equivalent) is recommended on the face. Potency: Locoid (hydrocortisone butyrate) lipocream is a medium/low potency topical steroid while clobetasol is a ultra-high potency topical steroid. Clobetasol is more likely to cause side effects like skin thinning, scarring, discoloration which can all be permanent. Locoid (hydrocortisone butyrate) is much less likley to cause this.
