Medication for cystic acne & saeborrheic dermatitis causing severe migraines.Using isotretinoin, minocycline as HCl BP & desloratadine. Drug reaction?
Stop meds, check eye: If you are having headaches, i would stop the Minocycline and isotretinoin. When given together there is an increased risk of a rare side effect, pseudotumor cerebri. I would have my eyes checked and if no evidence of pseudotumor, restart either the Minocin (minocycline) or isotretinoin, but not both. Migraines can also worsen with Isotretinoin and not affect the eyes, but it definitely needs to be ruled out. ...Read more
Skin replacement: There are many areas of investigation in dermatology such as better treatment for tumors like melanoma and treatment for chronic conditions like psoriasis and eczema. A most interesting line of investigation is to develop an artificial skin to replace skin damaged by disease or trauma. This would be a fabulous breakthrough. Do you have any ideas for a skin breakthrough? ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

Unlikely to have any: marijuana has few, if any, interactions with medicines. The medical use of marijuana is extremely important, and because of politics, may be unknown by many physicians. Recent colonoscopy revealed - patch mucosal congestion. Any medicine/diet advise please? Symptoms are intermittent tightness ascending colon.
I would think the: description "patch mucosal congestion" would be an incidental, benign finding. It suggests a little swelling and perhaps prominent blood vessel in a small portion of the colon lining. This would not cause any symptoms, certainly not "tightness" in the colon (which I don't think you can feel). General colon cancer prevention is avoiding red/processed meats, refined grains/sugars, adding fiber. ...Read more

What are common treatments for cholinergic urticaria?
list medicine, dosage, etc
5 mg Levocetrizine no effect
history: allergic rhinitis
Anthistamines: Antihistamines are main treatment for cholinergic urticaria, but sometimes must take more than normal dose. You can try twice daily dosing of cetrizine (10 mg twice a day) or twice daily dosing of fexofenadine (180 mg twice a day). If this regimen not working, I suggest seeing an allergist to further manage/evaluate. ...Read more
Maybe neither: Why take the mindset that one reaches for a pill either allopathic or naturopathic for a natural condition of womankind? I would counsel starting with avoiding triggers like alcohol/heat, then progress to dietary control. There are several anti-inflammation diet books out there which can be helpful. Or consider therapies like yoga to strengthen the mind-body before reaching for pills. ...Read more

I'm taking 150 mg of Effexor-XR for GAD. Anxiety & nervousness are listed as common side-effects. Tense now: side-effect (lower dose) or increase it?
Normal dose: As you mentioned, this is a side effect that can occur with Effexor (venlafaxine) XR. Generally, these side effects are transient and go away after a few days. However, this dose is generally achieved after a 1-2 week titration period. Best bet is to call the prescribing doctor and tell them what's happening since they know your history. If manageable, try to stick with it for a few more days. Hope that helps! ...Read more

Day 4/7 1000mg Cipro (cipro (ciprofloxacin)floxacin) for epidydimitis. Read some horror stories of neuropathy/tendonitis from cipro (ciprofloxacin) - should I worry? warning signs? Exercise?
No exercise.: Cipro (ciprofloxacin) interferes with human DNA gyrase in maintaining tendon integrity and potentially rupture a tendon. As a matter of interest this occurs more in animals, like dogs.I would wait 3 weeks after completion of antibiotic therapy to help any weakened tendons to strengthen. Then you can be unleashed!(to exercise). believe the neuropathy comes from a different mechanism. ...Read more
