Dermatofibroma Vs Nodular Melanoma
A condition in which some element of your skin--which is one of the most complex organs in the body--degenerates into cancer. The three most common types of skin cancer are: basal cell, squamous cell, and melanoma which occur in that order and degree of aggressiveness. Although heredity plays a major role, sun exposure and tobacco use and ...Read more
Remove Melanoma: That's what you can see...No telling how far it has spread microscopically. Get it off!See 1 more doctor answer
Melanoma: 42 F: Notes: Nodular melanoma picked off would the spot grow back and continue growing vertical. Just curious. ANS: melanoma is one of the most deadly skin cancers. Show to your Dr. And discuss. Hope your Dx is wrong.
Why do some people get nodular melanoma and others superficial. What are the traits that make one more susceptible to either one?
Dumb luck: The mutations that drive cancers are largely random. It's being worked out, but even the genetic syndromes that put people at risk for superficial spreaders such as CDKN2A also produce nodulars. Basically they're the same illness except that the nodulars got good at breaking through the basement membrane earlier than the superficial spreaders. Hoping you have an early lesion and surgical cure.
If nodular melanoma was picked off. Would a biopsy of the underlying tissue a few months later still be accurate to make a diagnosis.
Nodular melanoma does not follow abcd pattern. Can it be caught early like other melanomas due to its growth? Hoping experience answers. Thanks
Yes: A nodular Melanoma can show ABCD in many ways It can be asymmetrical, border irregular, color variegation and certainly size greater than 6 MM. But, yes, although those types of melanoma can be appear as an elevated "mole" they are typically VERY dark and ominous looking.
Can anyone provide the overall survival rate for nodular melanoma. I am not looking for stage specific. Just the overall %. I read once, 80%???
But survival really: Is based on the stage of the melanoma, so I can't give you that answer without knowing the stage
What is the USA statistical survival rate for all stages of nodular melanoma combined. I read SSM is 96% and NDis 80%. Is there anywhere to verify?
Melanoma: I do not know about other MDs but for me there are two key resources for both patients and physicians. One is simply called PUBMED for public medicine. See http://www. Ncbi. Nlm. Nih. Gov/PubMed/ then type in superficial spreading melanoma AND survival. Pubmed will pull all relevant medical articles for which you can skim titles and read abstracts. Other resource is www. Endnote. Com with a 30d trial.
Can nodular melanoma be caught early? It is seems it is often caught later because of how it grows. But can it be caught early like other melanomas?
IT'S UP TO YOU: Any lesion can be caught early if you, the patient, has an awareness of an abnormal lesion and bring it to your doctor's attention.See 1 more doctor answer
What is the survival rate for nodular melanoma combining all stages together? I know each stage is different. Just looking for the overall survival.
Variable survival fi: It is a very heterogeneous disease, so there is no one figure which will help you. If you give us the Breslow thickness of your nodular melanoma, we can give you a survival figure corresponding to that thickness. In general, Melanoma is diagnosed as stage 1 or 2 in more than 90% of patients, here the overall survival is over 80%. Once it starts to spread (stage 3) the survival drops to 50% level.
What is the survival rate for nodular melanoma specifically? Can it be caught in situ? What causes it to begin as nodular as opposed to superficial?
Poor: The most aggressive type of melanoma is the Nodular melanoma. The most serious type of skin cancer is Melanoma or more often referred to as malignant melanoma. It became the most exceptional type of skin cancer form because it is likely to spread among the internal organs or lymph nodes in the body unlike other skin cancer types.
Specific to nodular melanoma. What % are diagnosed as stage 1 or 2? Previously answered on health tap as 85% but that appears to be all types together
Probably 60-70%: Nodular Melanomas tend to be more advanced, so the percentage of stage 1 and 2 will be lower.
Other than speed, what makes a nodular melanoma different than the other sub types. Why would nodular start in one person and superficial in another?
Mutations: Http://www. Ncbi. Nlm. Nih. Gov/pmc/articles/PMC3253944/ Histologically, genomically distinct biological subtypes https://www.melanoma.org/understand-melanoma/what-is-melanoma/cutaneous-melanoma Age, race, genetic make-up, intermittent sun exposure all play a part. These two subtypes have different ratios and prevalence of certain mutations like BRAF and NRAS. SSM often begins from dysplastic nevi.
What is the overall survival rate for nodular melanoma. I read 80% for ND and 96% for SSM in one article but I can not find the figures anywhere else?
Can Spread Quickly: Nodular melanomas tend to grow up as a nodule, and down into the skin. With melanomas, the deeper it is into the skin, the more likely it is to spread. So ask your doctor the depth of penetration in millimeters or the clarks level. Prognosis depends on the depth of penetration, and not the type of melanoma.See 3 more doctor answers
Yes: Melanoma is a very bad type of skin cancer that can be lethal if left alone for a long enough time. The best treatment is surgery when it's caught early. Unless there is an absolute compelling reason not to have it removed, I would see surgeon who specializes in melanoma.See 2 more doctor answers
