Lichen planus of the skin? Not from medication. Any and all information on it? Causes? Cure? Etc...My derm and doctor Are not too familiar with it

Lichen Planus: Wikipedia: LP is a disease of the skin and/or mucous membranes that resembles lichen. The cause is unknown, but it is thought to be the result of an autoimmune process with an unknown initial trigger. There is no cure, but many different medications and procedures have been used to control the symptoms.

My derm. Wants to do a rectal biopsy for my chronic anal itching and fissures that didn't heal with medication & cream. What wld this biopsy show?

Before biopsy: Most of these cases can be managed safely with elimination of caffeine completely, keeping the area dry using corn starch powder regularly, avoiding beer, avoiding any soap directly on the bottom other than what washes off of you during a shower, not rubbing the area, using moist wipes such as cottonelle. Try to avoid creams especially steroid, they may help but can make things worse if used chron. ...Read more

Is it true that most drug store brands and not derm sold sun screens are not effective bc they don't hv titanium dioxide? Ie elta, that's what dm said

That is not true: In the U.S., there are several ingredients commonly used in today's sunscreens. If the sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB ultraviolet radiation from the sunlight, then it does work. One can get an idea of how well it works by looking at the SPF number (for example, SPF 8, SPF 15, SPF 30). However, a person may see little difference in effect among high SPF's (SPF 40 is similar to 60). ...Read more

Tried everything for my acne. Derm suggests accutane next. Was told it is a very potent last resort drug. Am I putting my health to great risk?

Requires monitoring: Accutane can cause birth defects to any fetus exposed during pregnancy and occasionally triggers liver injury. It's use is usually monitored closely, with regular blood tests to look for early signs of any toxic effect (so you stop it) and women are usually required to be on BC/sign a contract to that effect. It is a great drug when used appropriately but not one that is used without some caution. ...Read more

What is a derma roller used for?

What is a derma roller used for?

Derma rolling: The idea behind dermarolling is that small needles puncture the skin thereby enabling better penetration of a serum. The trauma of pricking the skin with needles is also supposed to prompt a repair response leading to improved looking skin. Personally, I regard dermarolling as potentially unhygienic, and unnecessary (as a good serum should be able to penetrate the skin without it being cut. ...Read more

Derma told me, undergo a diamond peel after 7 days of my chem peel, today is the 6 day, im not totally peeled, 20% of face did peel. Is it advisable?

Well you need to: Trust the dermatologist you are seeing. And if you don't then I would get a second opinion. I don't know your full history so I really can't comment on what is right for your skin and why you are getting these peels. Many superficial peels can be performed weekly. But if you are still peeling, it is unlikely you should be getting another then. Everyone's skin is different. Hope that helps ...Read more

Please answer! What results can I expect after undergoing derma rolling treatment?

Minimal changes: Dermarollers produce mechanical injury with needles. A variety of depths can be used by your skin doctor depending on the condition. More passes produce more trauma and some collagen remodeling which improve skin texture and acne scars. Wrinkles do not improve unless combined with retinoids. Can you tell me how is derma roller different from other skin rejuvenating techniques?

Depends: Dermarollers at home should be used cautiously as strict sterility should be maintained to avoid infections. Typically they are not painful because of limited depth. When used in a medical office, we use only single use items to avoid cross contamination. The items sold on the internet are very shallow and will not produce any significant skin changes. ...Read more

Dermaroller: Good question. To my knowledge, this has not been studied. I would not recommend it as it will SIGNIFICANTLY increase the absorption of minoxidil, which is a drug that lowers the blood pressure.

My body's Serum IGE count is 377.7. Can you please suggest on which medicines I need to be, to make it normal as my derma has really confused me.

My body's Serum IGE count is 377.7. Can you please suggest on which medicines I need to be, to make it normal as my derma has really confused me.

Causes of high IgE: An elevated IgE level is common when a person has allergies, eczema or parasites. It is simply a sign that your body is reacting to foreign substances in your environment. The level you have suggests an active immune system that has faced some challenges, but the level itself is not dangerous or anything that needs lowering just for the sake of having a different number. Treat symptoms, not labs. ...Read more

After yardwork >rash. Derma gave desonide0.05.After 1 week the rash went away, but came back. How long should I use the med to ensure complete healing?

Continue to treat.: You either have some kind of allergy or contact dermatitis. If it came back yard work then it most likely is something like poison ivy. This often requires a treatment for a longer period. Please continue treatment for 4-5 days more. If it doesn't clear out or comes back then your doctor might need to give you oral medications. ...Read more
