ALWAYS MISERABLE: Several varieties of depression, some of genetic origin, some due to bipolar types, manic-depressive variations, situational reactions to tragedies, etc. Usually in my experience, when the depressed patient becomes restless and agitated, that seems when the risk of suicide becomes the most intense, and death does become a major threat. My psych colleagues can help immensely.

Find a therapist: That specializes in adolescents and has training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Having depression is no fun, and just thinking happy thoughts rarely does much good. You have to get down to the deeper levels of your thinking and really examine the basis of your beliefs. This requires a trained therapist to do successfully.
I know that when I: Am down or struggling, I pray to heavenly father in my own words. I ask for comfort. I ask to have the strength to face things that I know will be difficult. I ask the lord to put people in my life who can teach me & inspire me. At the same time, I also give thanks for the many things that are good. I believe that it is the spirit with which we pray that is important - not the words. Take care.

No: It depends on the severity. Symptoms of depression include : a loss of interest in activities you used to enjoy, difficulty concentrating, change in sleep and/or appetite, fatigue, feelings of hopelessness, sadness, poor motivation, and irritabiliy. These symptoms can adversely affect your ability to function at home and/or at work. In severe cases suicidal ideation.
Depression: You give way too little information to answer. My comment would first be that there is no "irrational" depression. There is always a reason. There are many approaches. This is an academic paper but see if it helps: http://www. Tomkins. Org/uploads/thecaseagainstdepression. Pdf.
Many steps: First get a psychiatric evaluation. If the depression is rated mild to moderate, consider opting for psychotherapy with or without meds; if it is moderate to severe, consider meds with psychiterapy. Work on getting into an aerobic exercise habit and into widening and strengthening your social networks. Hope this helps.See 1 more doctor answer

Don't Give Up: Alas, nearly two-thirds of people suffering from depression and taking an anti-depressant do not get totally well. My approach: re-evaluate to r/o medical illness, add or intensify psychotherapy, consider adding a 2nd fda approved agent (abilify, seroquel (quetiapine) xr, deplin), check neurotransmitters and adrenal hormones, and lifestyle.
