I have been off of Depo-Provera provera for 2 months. On ortho micronor (norethindrone) now, and have constant heavy bleeding. Bad reactions to all other birth control. Help!

Abnormal bleeding: Depo Provera and micronor (norethindrone) are generally very safe methods of contraception with a lower risk of blood clots, heart attack, and stroke than many other methods. However, these methods are commonly associated with abnormal/irregular bleeding. Contact your md for options. ...Read more

I've been on the depo shot since I was 13, I am 19 now. My next shot is due the 6th. I never had more than spotting before. But I am bleeding heavy.

I've been on the depo shot since I was 13, I am 19 now. My next shot is due the 6th. I never had more than spotting before. But I am bleeding heavy.

Estrogens: One explanation is that the depot provera over time has not completely been able to prevent the estrogens from your ovaries to stimulate the inner lining of the uterus, which has built up, and is now breaking down. Future depot provera may or may not be able to stop the bleeding. Scraping of the inner lining (curettage) in this case is likely to help, but is typically done in the OR. ...Read more

I have been on the Depo-Provera shot since july (1st shot) and received my second last week. I'm now bleeding a heavy brown/black. Should I be concerned?

Prob normal: Breakthrough bleeding and abnormal bleeding patterns can be normal as your body is adjusting to the Depo-Provera provera (medroxyprogesterone). I wouldn't be too concerned about it unless you are having other symptoms like pain, odorous discharge, or heavy bleeding. ...Read more

I started taking the Depo-Provera shot in nov of this year and I've been bleeding heavy ever since what are my options to stop this?

Estrogen: It should improve on its own over time but you could try Estradiol. 5 mg at night until it stops. There is another medication called listed a which prevents clots from dissolving and should help. Depo is notorious for this problem. ...Read more

Does bleeding on depo for 8 days mean it's not effective? Brown light spotting for 7 days red heavier bleeding today. Depo shot on Jan14 1st dose

No. It means only: ...that the Depo shot has thrown your cycles off. Eventually you may have just occasional spotting or even no period at all. High levels of progesterone (which are in Depo=provera) make conception very unlikely b/c it shuts down ovulation and creates an inhospitable environment for sperm. If you were given patient info from the doctor or the pharmacist, I recommend you read it. Dr. Anne ...Read more

I took Depo-Provera to help with heavy perio but I have been bleeding for 1 whole month my dr gave me gildess pills to take over shot to help stop the bleedi?

Great idea: That's the best idea... What your doctor did. Often the shot causes the lining of the uterus to be unstable, and have small bleeds, or continuous bleeding. The estrogen in the pill he/she gave you can help to stabilize the lining to help stop the bleeding from the depot provera (medroxyprogesterone). Very common strategy to help women. ...Read more

I've been bleeding heavily for 2 1/2 weeks since I got my 1st Depo-Provera shot 1 1/2 months ago. Is there anything I can do to stop it & am I losing too much?

Estrogen: Sometimes your gyn will prescribe a course of estrogen to stop this type of bleeding. Its hard to know if you are losing too much without doing a blood test to see. If you are soaking a pad or tampon an hour, you are probably losing too much. Best wishes! ...Read more

I'm having heavy today bleeding after cyrotherapt three weeks ago. I'm on the Depo-Provera shot and haven't had a period in almost a year.

I'm having heavy today bleeding after cyrotherapt three weeks ago. I'm on the Depo-Provera shot and haven't had a period in almost a year.

Depends: It's common to have discharge after cryotherapy, but, that said, it's unusual to have delayed heavy bleeding like you describe. Cryotherapy shouldn't mess up your hormones. Perhaps there was a scab or clot that just got dislodged. If the bleeding lasts more than 48 hours, especially if it continues to be heavy, you should contact your gyno. ...Read more

Yes I started my period Nov 5 and its heavy it usually last 4 days I just had a baby September 8 and got back on depo shot and still bleeding?

Unpredictable: The bleeding patterns with depoprovera are unpredictable. You are right that for some in takes the period away. For others it causes irregular bleeding. There is no "normal" for Depo-Provera users. The longer you are on it the higher the chance of no periods. The Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud may be a better option for you if you want to avoid pregnancy and stop having periods. ...Read more

My last shot of Depo-Provera povera was in november & I been. Having unprotected sex but now for the past week or so I been bleeding and heavy brown discharge?

Hormonal imbalance: You need to check a pregnancy test. If it is negative then you are bleeding from being in an anovulatory state where there is an imbalance of the two hormones. This can be a residual effect of the depo-provera and your gynecologist can correct it. For more info www. Askyourgynecologist. Org. ...Read more

I started taking Depo-Provera for a heavy period it sucks I've been on my period since sep 9 I got my 3 shot and still bleeding help please?

Difficult: I'm so sorry you are going through this. It is a known side effect of the shot, and I hope your health care provider mentioned that. The best solution is to take a low-dose combined birth control pill in addition to help stop the bleeding. Depot can cause lining of uterus to thin and then small capillaries bleed. Best of luck. You can also sign up for healthtap and obgyn on this site can prescrib ...Read more

I got my first Depo-Provera shot on march 18, to stop my heavy continual vaginal bleeding. It worked but in 5 days I broke out with a rash. Is this normal?

Rash: It is possible to develop an allergic reaction following a Depo-Provera injection. I would think that a reaction would occur sooner than described. Try to think of other sources that may cause a rash ie. Change in detergents, soap, shampoo, certain foods. With depo, once injected, you cannot "stop" taking the drug. It is designed to last 3 months. ...Read more

Preg test faint + 3 days later heavy bleeding 2 days 1 spotting period 15 days late could I be preg and Depo-Provera shot still making me bleed?

I suggest you see a doctor as soon as possible to determine whether the fetus is healthy and what your next step should be. ...Read more

I responded terribly to the Depo-Provera shot. Mood swings, breakthrough bleeding all 3 months, weight gain of 30lbs. Would implanon affect me the same way?

It could: The Progesterone in Implanon is different than the Progesterone in Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) plus it is a lot lower dose. That means you are somewhat less likely to have the side effects you had with Depo-Provera provera. Remember that Implanon can give irregular periods, but is much less likely to bleed for 3 months, or to cause much weight gain, and less likely to give mood swings. ...Read more
