Maybe,maybe not: This somewhat depends on the extent of the record. Sometimes such labels are used in early childhood and are found not to fit well when the kid is older.If so, the early label becomes part of the history. Someone found to be developmentally delayed at 3 may catch up by their teens and the label would obviously not apply. Such is the problem with observational diagnoses. ...Read more

Sometimes they do.: It should be able to be recognized by age 3, but if symptoms are less noticeable, and iq is high, the diagnosis may not always be determined by age 3. In some cases the diagnosis is quite obvious to an experienced clinician by age 2. Feel free to seek a second opinion. Don't let the lack of a diagnose keep you from getting your child help. A few things are : Known to ? risk of a woman's having a child with ASD if they're done prior to conception: taking a daily folate (folic acid) supplement, having a flu vaccine ( if not, having a flu shot the 2nd trimester), checking immunity to rubella, avoiding alcohol, tobacco & drugs, checking safety of prescribed meds, herbs & supplements, weight reduction if obese, & good prenatal care to avoid pre-term delivery. ...Read more
