It sounds as if you are worried about lyme disease. Deer ticks are potential carriers of lyme disease, human anaplasmosis and babesiosis.
Lyme disease can cause very disabling permanent effects; death has been reported, but would be unusual.
Anaplasmosis and babesiosis would not be considered deadly.

Part of a deer tick remained in my skin when trying to remove it. Will it come out on its own? Or should I see a doctor?
Probably OK.: It's common for the head to remain after you remove it, and that's not a problem. But if there is any chance that it was a lyme disease-carrying tick, and it was attached for at least 24 hours, you are at risk for lyme disease. If you don't know how long it was attached, you should see your doctor for lyme titres (one now, one in a couple of weeks) to be sure. ...Read more

Rash from tick bite: Tick mouth parts can remain in skin after tick removal and cause a small red bump at the site. If you have the tick, your dr. Can send it to the lab to determine type of tick. A preventative dose of antibiotics is usually given for a tick bite. I also recommend testing for lyme disease now and in 6 weeks to see if there are antibodies to lyme. Skin bump may need to be excised. ...Read more

How long does it take for the bulls eye to come up to show you have Lyme disease from a deer tick?
How long willit take for the "bulls eye" to come up to show you have Lyme disease from a deer tick?
3-30 days or never: A bulls-eye rash (erythema migrans) after a tick bite is considered a sure sign that one has been infected with lyme & appears 3-30 days after the bite (usually 3-7 days). However, half or more of those proven to have lyme do not recall this rash. One should therefore not wait to see if they develop this rash to seek preventive treatment. The sooner treatment is started after exposure the better! ...Read more
A year ago I was bitten by what I think was a deer tick in my belly button. I have a scar. Occasionally the area swells and itches. Is this normal?
Not really: What you describe sounds fairly mild (occasional swelling and itching), but it is not normal. Typically if the "bite" was infected, the symptoms would not be so intermittent, and it would be tender. However, "something" is irritating your skin. Since it has been going on for a year now, it may be time to see your Dr or a dermatologist the next time it swells up. (I wouldn't go when it's normal) ...Read more
