You will benefit from a series of peels, and they will create a smoother texture, tighter tone, and fresher look for your skin. ...Read more
I wouldn't: I'd let them fade naturally. If these are from acne, simply be sure that your disease is under control -- your physician can help. It's not curable until it remits on its own, but it's always manageable. A chemical peel is more likely to hurt and will probably disappoint -- the pigment is in your dermis, which a peel cannot touch. ...Read more

Do chemical peels work for removing hyperpigmentation left behind by acne on the back? I have dark skin.
Not So Simple: Chemical peels are used most often on the face, because the face heals better than other parts of the body. They are also more predictable the lighter your skin. Since peels irritate as they remove pigmentation there is a chance that they can cause pigmentation, sometimes more than the peel removes. Seek a qualified dermatologist to review your options. ...Read more

Leave it alone:
Depending on your ancestry, the pigment distribution you described is absolutely normal. You may wish to keep your arms covered and use sun screen. Chemical peels are likely to cause more problems than those may be worth.

Can I do peeling for the bikini area to treat hyperpimentation caused by laser hair removal treatment in between sessions?
You can do peels in between the laser treatments, but it may not help with the hyper pigmentation. PIH is "post inflammatory" and the peel may aggravate that. Probably a better option for you would be to use a cream that contains both a bleaching agent (like hydroquinone) and a low dose steroid.

It can happen.: In individuals with lupus and skin involvement, the pattern of inflammation seen microscopically is an interface pattern. Inflammatory cells in this pattern involve the junction of the epidermis and dermis. Melanocytes are located in this area, and the pigmentation of epidermal cells is disrupted. In some individuals, this results in hyperpigmentation; in others, there can be hypopigmentation. ...Read more
Will you still get post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation if you don't let that part of the skin see sunlight for months?
Yes, if prone to it.: Good question! Sunlight does not cause pih, but it can make it worse once it occurs. So pih can still occur on non-sun-exposed skin (if you are prone it) -- but it will go away faster if no sunlight hits it. (or if you wear a good sunscreen lotion every day). ...Read more

Brown skin color. 5 on a scale of 6. I have 2, 3 inch spot of hyperpigmentation from 10yr ago from using epila laser. How do I reverse it?
Unlikely to reverse: It sounds like the hyperpigmented skin is a side-effect from the laser. There are creams that you can buy over the counter to help with sun and age spots, but it is unlikely that your skin tone will return to normal after all this time. In general, the laser therapies result in skin discoloration that commercial advertisements do not disclose. Try the creams first, then see a dermatologist next. ...Read more
