Not normal: Your history suggest that you had barium swallow study done in the past, so this seems to have been an ongoing problem. With yours postnasal drip history, it's not normal to have to clear your throat in order to breathe deeply, unless you have thick sputum, or excessive nasal drainage. Being unable to clear the throat may be a result of something that is not an allergic process, such as, chronic gastroesophageal reflux, as well as several other conditions associated with the esophagus and upper airway. Tic: These pattern behaviors can be signs of a tic disorder. These can be a transient process lasting up to 6 mo or a more long lasting process lasting years. There is some family influence (inheritance) and may be a triggering event (infectious process).I would have the kid seen by a pediatrician, developmental peds or child neurologist. Foreign body: I've done the same thing. If the feather when down you swallowing tube or esophagus, you should be fine. Your stomach will digest the feather just like any other food item. However, if the feather when down your windpipe or trachea, it would likely cause a very significant cough and tickle that would not resolve until the feather is gone. If you think it is in your airway, get checked soon. Read more
Allergies?: Do you also have trouble breathing? How about nasal congestion? You can have an itchy throat from nasal allergies, but also from a throat infection and the back pain can be from reactive airways from a cold or asthma. I can only get deep breath on exhale, forcing a yawn, or reaching down throat. Lying down is worse. Docs say there's enough co2 in system. What's up?
Your question is not: Clear to me. From what I understand, you have problem of breathing particularly in lying position called orthopnea. The relation between breathing problem and level of co2 is interrelated. Need more info: You should see a doctor and be examined and this may necessitate imaging studies. This can be localized to your chest, under the diaphragm, in the cervical spine or elsewhere. Sometimes when I'm just sitting down my throat feels tight, and I feel like I have to take deeper breaths to get air. Also I have asthma.

Hi, I have what feels like asthma at the base of my throat, taking deep breaths causes this area to hurt hence causing me shortness of breath.
Vocal cord problem?: A 21 year old male with feeling of "asthma" at base of throat, with difficulty taking deep breaths and pain. This feeling in your throat may not be due to asthma.
