If there is a fever it should be treated with acetaminophen as fever will contribute to dehydration. If the child's caregivers smoke, they should quit for the sake of the child's health. I would also be concerned about this child's immune status with a serious medical history like this. ...Read more

135 pulse rate, 98 spo2, 103.8 temperature, 3yr old female, breath sounds clear, no SOB, should I take her to urgent care? Concerned about EN-D68

Yes: If you're worried about EV-D68 (http://www. Cnn. Com/2014/09/08/health/enterovirus-d68-symptoms/index. Html), then yes, better safe than sorry. Besides, depending upon your reference, some might consider 135bpm to be elevated for 3yo (http://www. Emedicinehealth. Com/pediatric_vital_signs/article_em. Htm). Don't forget, other germs can cause fever, too. Urinary tract infections are very common in girls. ...Read more

My child often has reduced breath sounds (mid, lower), with pain& bloated abdomen. Clear cxr. Besides asthma, what could cause be? Min. Change albuter

Look at diet: Bloating makes me think that perhaps there are some food intolerances....If this child is older than one...Consider adding probiotics (like culturelle) and removing dairy and gluten form the diet.

You may want to discuss this further with your doctor. I also suggest a chinese medicine evaluation as I have great success with this in my patients. ...Read more

I was diagnosed with a sinus infection today. I am being sent for x-rays do to clear lungs bilaterally with diminished breath sounds. What causes that?

Lung function test: Although sinus infection can worsen asthma symptoms, treating the sinus infection alone does not necessarily improve your asthma immediately. You need a lung function test to find out the cause for your respiratory symptoms and be treated accordingly. If your doc can't see you within a day or two, go to an urgent care or ER. ...Read more

11wks preg & have had virus in lungs. Now dim bilat breath sounds. Cardio echo shows EF 35-40%, lft vent cardiomyopathy. How serious is this? Bedrest?

Viral cardiomyopathy: Prognosis is not predictable and becomes evident as the patient is followed over time. Some patients experience complete recovery, others may develop chronic heart failure due to injured heart muscle. Infrequently, some patients develop fulminant heart failure, a fatal condition without heart transplantation, but this is infrequent. Best wishes. ...Read more

Dx with flu on 2/19. I was also wheezing with dimin breath sounds. Now can barely stand up straight and breathe due to left lung pain. Re-eval time?

Trouble breathing?: If a person is having trouble breathing, talking, or swallowing, then it is safer to call 911 and have the ambulance take her to the Emergency Room, instead of driving there in a private car. If there is wheezing and trouble breathing, that can be a serious worsening of asthma symptoms. The flu can lead to pneumonia and asthma attacks. A doctor's evaluation and treatment is needed. ...Read more
