Black tooth under temp crown, is it tooth decay?

Black tooth under temp crown, is it tooth decay?

It All Depends: All other answers are valid. However, I'd like to add that if the temp crown was recently placed while you're waiting for a permanent crown, the black coloration can be from bacteria getting through the temp crown. It's a result of not having a good seal with the temp crown and usually not a cavity. You commonly see this if the temp crown has been in place for some time where the seal is bad. ...Read more

Does teeth bleaching ruin the tooth enamel?

Does teeth bleaching ruin the tooth enamel?

No: Just don't overdo it. Your teeth will only whiten to the extent that the enamel will allow. The color of the dentin underneath will still shine through and cannot be lightened by bleaching. Likewise, if you have recession, your exposed roots will not lighten and should not be bleached. A common side effect of whitening is sensitivity of the teeth, which is transient. ...Read more

Dental cavity crown-re;ated?

Dental cavity crown-re;ated?

Indirectly, maybe: Question is too vague, but i'll address possibilities. If a crown is poorly designed with a gap in the fit on the tooth, a cavity could develop in gap. If cavity remains after tooth reduction for crown, it may continue to progress under crown. If a crown doesn't contact adjacent tooth well, food trap forms which creates a condition for a cavity to occur on adjacent tooth or at margin of crown. ...Read more

Is tooth decay hereditary?

Not really: No i don't think it is. But the bad habits that cause tooth decay are passed on through families. I have heard patients say that bad teeth run in their family, but i don't agree with that. If you brush 2-3 times a day, floss once a day, rinse once a day, see the dentist every 6 months, you will go a long way toward breaking this family tradition. ...Read more
