My sister committed suicide from a drug/alcohol overdose. I know it depends on the drug(s) & amount of alcohol. Would this been a painful death?
Usually not: People who have witnessed such deaths describe them as peaceful. I'm very sorry about your sister and whatever it was that caused her to decide life wasn't worth living. Our minds play tricks on us, and each of us has times when we are not ourselves. I hope you'll cherish the memories that you had together, and live your own life richly and well. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

But this pathologist assures you that however many years of actual life a drug abuser loses, the loss in quality of life, meaning, and loving relationships is far greater -- and rehabilitation can come only from within. Peace. ...Read more

How EXACTLY does general anesthesia lead to heart attack, stroke or death? What are the mechanisms in the drug that leads to a stroke? How does it kil
No single answer: Serious complications from GA are much more likely in pts who are already sick. If you have coronary artery disease, the stress of surgery and anesthesia can lead to heart attack. If you have already had a stroke, the same stresses can contribute to another. No one drug or technique is at fault. Surgery makes the body tend to form clots as part of healing. This can add to risk of stroke or MI. ...Read more

Did my daughter suffer before she died? My daughter had a severe allergic reaction to a drug administered for a seizure in the hospital the night after her surgery....She died of anaphylaxis we were told she suffocated to death...Would you have answers as
I : I am so sorry for your loss. I have seen many patients in my career who have had anaphylaxis and were brought by ambulance (these reactions were from medications taken at home, bee stings, or allergy shots) and i will tell you that the patients did not have pain. Anaphylaxis is so severe and so sudden that the patient very often immediately loses consciousness because their blood pressure drops. Because the blood pressure drops so suddenly, I do not think that she would have suffered or have pain based on my experience. Again, I am so sorry for the loss you have gone through. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
