Daughter Complaining Stomach
13 YO daughter complaining of stomach pains. Lab work is normal. Xray shows feces in abdomen. What could this mean? Awaiting appt w/ GI spec. Rx Colace (docusate sodium)
Constipation: If x-rays consistent with constipation you recommend a "MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol)" cleanout. This involves staying close to home and a toilet and I would give her one capful of MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) in 8 ounces of diluted Gatorade (I like G2 Half water, half G2). This mixture is given over 24 to 48 hours along with a low residue diet (broth, Jell-O, Popsicles). post clean out diet should be healthy. Check with her primary M.D. ...Read more

My daughter is complaining of a stomach ache. She is 7 years old. Is there anything I can give her?
Abdominal pain: For mild intermittent pain try the 5p's. Have your daughter pee, poop, pass gas, and use a heating pad (low). And if that does not work try praying (5). If the praying time goes on too long it is time to see the doctor. Medicines do not usually help the pain and should not be given until your doctor can assure you that there is nothing significant going on. ...Read more

My 3 y.O daughter is always complaining about having stomach aches after she eats. What can be wrong?
Gastrocolic Reflex: Occurs when a stretch on the stomach increases the motility of the colon. Having a " full" stomach creates an urge to have a bowel movement. Your daughter may sense this as pain ; complain in the middle of a meal because her stomach is smaller than an adult's. If there are no other symptoms, allow her to go to the bathroom, wash her hands ; come back to the table till excused. ...Read more

My daughter has had diareeha for the past 3 day, today she seemed fine all day, then at lunchtime started complaining that her stomach hurt. Now she vomited her dinner from last night. She has not had any fever?
Stomach bug: We don't always mount a fever when we get sick, don't let that throw you. If she's acting 'ok', just encourage small sips of clear fluids (water, electrolyte replacement drink) to keep her hydrated, don't worry about food right now. If she continues to vomit even with small sips then get her checked out to make sure that she isn't getting dehydrated. Tomorrow if she's not vomiting you can add BRAT food ...Read more

My 9 year old daughter has had green stools for 2 weeks. I know its not her diet. She also complains of stomach pains off and on.
Normal varient: The stool color is provided by the bile from the liver that is added to fecal debris. It starts out a deep green & slowly changes thru greens to yellows to browns as the germs in the intestines metabolize the bile. Green generally means the stool in question moved through faster or was subject to less change by gut germs. The cramping reflects rapid transit. A probiotic yogurt may settle her system. ...Read more

My daughter is constantly having green poop. She is 2 and complains of stomach aches. Could it be her stomach causing the green poop?
Normal variation: The main agent adding color to the poo is the material made by the liver called bile. Rapid transit thru the system, as may occur with diarrhea or breast feeding may have a greenish yellow or yellow appearance. The slower, more likely browner. ...Read more

Prob viral infection: You do not state whether she is having loose BM's or having urges and only passing small pebbles, which could be a sign of constipation. If loose or diarrhea, there are many causes of diarrhea, but with an abrupt onset, one would think of dietary change, mild food poisoning or viral gastroenteritis. Until better, reduce fruit juice, syrups and jam, and switch to lactose free milk for a few days ...Read more

Vague/nonspecific: The kind of abdominal pain you are describing in a 3 yr old does not sound significant. Pain lasting 1 min once or twice daily over 1-2 days may be from constipation or a virus.
