Suffer from severe facial trauma, hit a moose 20 years ago. Managed my pain for years with Darvon which is no longer manufactured. Need alternatives?
Darvon: Is a mu-opioid receptor agonist similar to codeine and oxycodone. Most of time, opioid medications are poor or ineffective at managing chronic pain. That is great if you were able to successfully manage the discomfort for so many years. Speak with your primary doctor about appropriate alternatives. ...Read more

Not sure why the?: Since propoxyphene has not been available legally in the United States for about 10 years now. It was taken off the market for 2 major reasons. One was that it simply didn't work. Codeine DOES work. Numerous studies showed that darvon compounds only worked because of the other things in them (aspirin, tylenol (acetaminophen) etc.) and that darvon alone was a placebo. Secondly, it had cardiac effects. ...Read more
How much time does it take for acetaminophen and propoxyphene napsylate 650 mg / 100 mg. Pills to leave your system?
Depends on what you: Are really asking. Firstly, darvon isn't even available legally in this country, mainly because it 1) doesn't work and is essentially a placebo and 2) it caused a number of heart rhythm problems. It can however cause overdose and addiction. I don't even know if it is tested for in most testing kits. It is a short-acting drug but its metabolites stick around and can be detected for 2-4 days. ...Read more

I've been going through a miscarriage this week & today I passed the embryo & sac. This has been an emotional, mental & physical time and to top it off, I've had terrible diarrhoea. Is this normal or could I have an infection?
Sorry for your loss: I feel for what you are going through... Usually a uterine infection doesn't cause diarrhea & the only connection I can make is if you were given a medication to help complete your miscarriage (cytotec=misoprostil, prostin, etc). These medications can cause GI symptoms such as severe nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. Keep up on your fluids, Ibuprofen for cramps, & call your doc for fevers or pain. ...Read more

When I can warm or hot or when I exercise, I get stings (electrical needle like) all over my body, primarily head and back. I hope there is a cure for this, I think it might be heat rash? But there is no rash, just pain.
It is good that you are exercising. What you described is likely due to onset of sweating and the sweat gland trying to put out water quickly. Try a 10 minute period of warming up before progressing to hard or vigorous exercise.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.

My doctor is dead and I need bistolic and lisinopril refilled for bp...I have no refills is there a way a pharmacist can give emergency refills or am I looking at going to the emergency room just to get a prescription?
A: A pharmacy cannot issue medications if a prescription or refill order is not available. If the doctor is part of a group practice contact the office and ask another physician to review you record and issue a prescription as indicate. If the doctor was the sole practitioner inquire if another physician has either purchased the practice or has agreed to take on the care of his patients. An emergency room visit may be an expensive way to obtain a refill. You might consider a "minute clinic" which is designed to treat non-emergent medical conditions. ...Read more

How can I get rid of acne? I have tired every acne cleanser and face cleanser their is and nothing seems to work. If anything it sometimes makes my face worse. All of my acne is on my face, just on my cheeks and chin.
Serious Rx: You need to get with a physician. Cleansers aren't going to help. Monitoring your diet is good advice. I'm going to assume you've tried benzoyl peroxide without being cleared. Chances are that your physician may add a topical antibiotic, topical spironolactone, or (if it's right for you) the oral contraceptive pill, and you can end this suffering, managing it until it self-cures. ...Read more
How long does a tooth abscess last? I have a hole in tooth so it's draining, and I take 500mg of amoxicillin twice a day. Just started taking the antibiotics last night. When should the swelling in my gums/face go down?
Maybe never, but...: Tooth abscesses originate from dead/diseased tissue within the bad tooth, which leads to an infection in the surrounding supporting bone (abscess). Antibiotics may temporarily reduce the abscess (usually takes no less than 48 hrs, but maybe longer), but never truly address the cause. For this you need a root canal or extraction. Some infections will not respond to antibiotics at all. ...Read more
While on levlen ED I had no side effects as soon as I switched over to Yaz (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) I had fatigue moody angry and emotional but Yaz (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) is lower dose than levlen?
Different progestero: There are two different hormones in bcp. Though Yaz (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) has less estrogen than levlen, Yaz (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) has a different progesterone. When women have mood swings on bcp it is usually from the type of progesterone. Sounds like you feel better on the hormones in levlen, and it is a good bcp. Go back to it, or speak with your doc about a pill with the same Progesterone as levlen. ...Read more
My 7 yo son fell while swinging. He dropped about a metre onto his tummy and knocked his wind out. Next morning back and abdomen sore. No evident bruises. Should I take him to doc or just treat with voltaren type lotion?
Depends: A 7 yo should be able to describe any emerging problems quite well. If the kid resumes his normal level of daily activities with few or no complaints you should be able to monitor this without a visit. If he doesn't pursue his usual activities or complains, it might be worth one. ...Read more

And, if you were able to think and talk with your low blood sugar than it is probably either a testing error or you do fine at that level.
