Darkness In Corner Of My Eye
I've been having darkness/flashing in lower outside corner of left eye for a month. Normal retinal exam. Optometrist today told me it was because my eyes were very dry and inflamed. Possible?
More likely PVD: Flashing in the peripheral (outside part) of vision is not likely due to dry eyes. I would be concerned about retinal and vitreous changes, specifically an evolving posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) although you are quite young for this. That is the most common reason for flashes, and often a prominent floater results. I would seek consultation from an ophthalmologist (md) if it persists. ...Read more

CT Scan, MRI (extensive left mastoiditis) ears ok. Headache w/ darkness (corner of eyes). Bacterial infection in June. ENT on Fri. Allergy/recovery?
Head ache: "Mastoiditis" is over read on MRI by radiologist. If CT is ok with no bone erosion or complete Opacification then easily treated with meds. It may be unrelated to your HA. If you have no nasal or sinus congestion or middle ear fluid then you don't have clinically significant mastoiditis. You've been on abc and antihistamine already. You will at least get a good head $ neck exam from ENT. ...Read more

My friend has had an allergic reaction to something and has had problems with her eyes. Now in darkness age says she sees "silly string " type lines.
No harm: Low light activates the keenest amount of light receptivity of the eye which can in the right circumstances detect one photon alone. But there is no harm in this. You could live in a cave with no light for years and your eyes would stay healthy. ...Read more
Bags under eyes: Dark bags under eyes are often due to: fluid from thin blood vessels under eyes. This can be due to genetics (got it from mom or dad), excess rubbing (shiners), allergies, excess salt; be sure kidney function is normal. Cold ice packs might help decrease bags by constricting blood vessels. See an eyemd if no improvement. Some patients need to have excess skin removed. Eyedoc2020.Blogspot. Com. ...Read more

Strain but no harm: Contrary to popular belief, reading in dim light does not do any long-term damage to the eye itself or weaken the eyesight. For the short-term, however, it can cause some eyestrain, which is just fatigue in the muscles of the eyes. If your eyes feel sore or your vision is less crisp than usual, it is time to close your eyes and rest them (and maybe dream about that great novel you're reading!). ...Read more

I looked at an ipad on full brightness in total darkness and my eyes have burned for weeks. What can I do?
Eye irritation: Computer use and prolonged reading is associated with a reduced blink rate. When you blink, your natural tears lubricate your cornea and conjunctiva (the clear dome over your eye and the "skin" on the eyeball). When conjunctiva is less lubricated it can become inflamed-thus a red eye. Use some lubricating eye drops prior to and during these gaming stints. ...Read more
