Dark green diarrhea (based on stool color). Green when wiping with a few black spots. Black seen on TP only. Should I be concerned?

Dark green diarrhea (based on stool color). Green when wiping with a few black spots. Black seen on TP only. Should I be concerned?

Black stools: The green color is nothing to worry about. It may be bile or something you have eaten. Truly black stools generally should be tested (very simple to do in the doctor's office) to be sure it is not due to old blood. This will probably clear up soon. If not, check with an urgent care facility. Best wishes. ...Read more

2yr old has dark green diarrhea both thick/watery with bright green mucus, after food poisoning from undercooked hamburger.

Diarrhea: When red meat is not cooked properly or is kept in the refrigerated condition for a long time, the possibility of diarrhea increases manifold. Dark green diarrhea and queasy feeling in stomach. Also vomited large amounts of yellow fluid (just fluid) this morning. No change to eating/drinking?

Gastroenteritis: Sounds like you have gastroenteritis. If it gets to the point where you are unable to keep fluids down, you will likely have to go to the ER to get medications and some fluids into you. I would switch to Gatorade to help you with your electrolytes that you are likely losing and hopefully it will pass in the next 12-24 hours and decrease in severity. If it doesn't, go to the ER for further eval. ...Read more

I gave birth 1month ago, and had diarrhea almost every other day since. Why? Today it was a really dark green. Should i be worried?

That relationship: Is a bit difficult but stress and bowl habits can be related. With a newborn your sleep cycle is likely off and this may contribute. Consider more fiber in diet, bulky plant fiber or fibercon, but likely not directly related to delivery. Gd luck, get seen if not improving. ...Read more

I've been having diarrhea that is a dark olive green in color (gallbladder removed 12/30/2014). Is this just my body adjusting or a complication?

Common: This is known as cholereic diarrhea related to the continuous secretion of bile into the small intestine rather than episodic secretion in those who have a gallbladder. This usually gets better with time, but may require treatment with cholestyramine. Let your doc know - Actually your doc should have let you know that this is common after surgery. ...Read more
