This could be the start of your period (coming a little early), often times the blood at the beginning and end of the cycle for that matter can be brown. The fact that your back hurts and abdomen hurts as well may mean that you are dealing with a urine or even kidney infection. Old blood: Dark blood and clots/tissue are most likely old blood left over from your previous cycle and this is not all that abnormal and a common finding in many women. Dark maroon colored blood in stool. Been going on 10 days. Happens every b.m. lower abdominal cramps, moderate shooting pain (not constant).
Do Not Delay: You need to see your PCP immediately and get a referral to a GI doctor or a colon and rectal surgeon for a rapid GI work up. This is probably some form of colitis and you need diagnosis and treatment quickly before you get much sicker and more anemic. Also, if it is something more serious, earlier the diagnosis the better. 10 days is long enough to wait to see a doctor or go to ER!! Don't wait! ...Read more

Dark vs bright red: Your blood when freshly oxygenated is bright red -- as it would be if you had cut an artery. Dark red blood is less oxygenated, as from a vein going back to the heart & lungs to be refreshed.
