More often ok but...: They are ok to take more often. No long term side effects but less reliable than regular contraception. If using repeatedly, why not talk to healthcare provider about using more reliable methods.

Emotional balance is a very complex thing, not regulated by hormones alone -- yet in some women can certainly be affected by them. You ; your ob-gyn physician may find that oc's differ in these effects for you. You may also have a depression which needs treatment regardless of oc's.

Hard to say: The reason for dozens of BCP preparations is the variation in the individual needs of the women involved. The med must be matched with the individual woman, based on a thorough evaluation and sometimes trial and error to limit side effects.

Yes: Most side effects will go away by month 3. Just make sure you didn't miss any pills. And spotting can also be a sign of an std. So make sure you are tested regularly for stds and that you are using condoms.

Yes (kind of): In general, pills with higher estrogen and lower androgen potency will help with acne, such as Yaz, (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) Ortho-Tri Cyclen, and Ortho Evra (others include Demulen, Brevicon, Modicon, Necon, and Mircette). As for sexual side effects, although OCPs may decrease androgens (thought to be important in libido), the particular pill doesn't seem to matter, nor do higher estrogen concentrations.

No: Birth control pills usually suppress the formation of ovarian cysts. Sometimes a cyst will form in-spite of the pill but they are much less common while on birth control pills. If your pain is persistent, you may want to see your Gyn as there are many causes of this type of pain. Best wishes!

Bleeding: The most common side effects of emergency contraception is irregular bleeding for 1-2 months after taking. Most widely used emergency contraceptive formulations are Progesterone only & there is no nausea. Plan b for example. Only older formulas using estrogen and Progesterone cause nausea. In some cases birth control pills can be used at high dose as emergency contraception and will cause nausea.

Low dose pills: The lowest dose pills have the least side effects. However, the lowest dose pills often aren't as good at regulating cycles. The lowest dose combination pill is lo loestrin. There are even lower dose pills that have progestin only.
