Quit, and soon.: Are you really concerned that quitting smoking will affect your medications? The list of reasons to quit smoking is so long, and the potential benefits so great, any minor effect on your medications is negligible. If you are very concerned about this talk with the doctor who prescribed your Lamictal and Zoloft (sertraline). Regardless, at your age, if you stop smoking, your life will be so much better.

Smoking Cessation: #1. Nicotine anonymous #2 I have had success treating people in recovery from nicotine addiction using the patch. Decrease the dose very gradually, making reductions every two weeks or longer, to increase the likelihood of staying stopped. This works bests if done in combination with #1.

After about 40 days of quitting smoking cold turkey were is the body at as far as healing and how long more till your better mentally and physically.?

Awesome!: First, going cold turkey is formidable. Going 40 days without smoking is a huge step toward regaining health. The benefits start immediately and accrue each day. Physical deconditioning for any reason takes a toll. However, a person will gain stamina each day he/she walks and increases activity. Improved cognitive function follows. All of this reinforces the huge benefit of being away from toxins.

32yo male recently diagnosed with hbp. Quitting smoking and smokeless tobacco. Is it safe to Vape as an aide or should I just go cold turkey?

Cold Turkey: Although it is "safe" you will still have the effects of nicotine on your blood pressure management. In addition I have rarely had a patient successfully quit when they "wean" off. The ones that are most successful go cold turkey. Good Luck. Take the big step to better health and longer life.

Is it normal to feel like you have a cold a few days after quitting smoking?

Is it normal to feel like you have a cold a few days after quitting smoking?

Not unusual: Smoke paralyzes cilia, tiny hairs that line the bronchial tubes that clear debris from the lungs. Now that you have stopped, your cilia have started to do their job of clearing out all of the tars & other gunk that has accumulated. Your sinuses will also now get a chance to clean out. This is a temporary phase. Of course, you might just have a cold:) congrats on stopping!

Its been 2 months after quitting smoking and still occasionally coughing brown phelgm. Is this a dangerous sign or shud I wait till it stop.

Discovering Damage: No. This is normal. This brown garbage you are coughing up is what your lungs have had to live with while you smoked. It is the visible evidence of the damage you did your lungs. Let them clean themselves out and heal.

Within a few weeks: If you quit smoking before you have moderate to severe COPD which is the term encompassing chronic bronchitis and emphysema you will see improvement in your stamina in several weeks and you will see disappearance of a chronic cough in just a few weeks. Also, nasal congestion and post-nasal drainage are much improved after stopping smoking.

Will quitting smoking help with my breathing difficulties in cold weather? I really hope it helps to clear it up.

Will quitting smoking help with my breathing difficulties in cold weather? I really hope it helps to clear it up.

Possibly....: Your shortness of breath in cold weather is likely due to bronchospasm, which can be treated with bronchodilator and possibly steroid inhalers. Smoking will increase airway inflammation, thus contributing to bronchospasm. Quitting smoking will decrease airway inflammation and decrease your risk of complications like COPD, lung cancer, etc. See your doctor for diagnosis/treatment.

Quit smoking a month ago. Been sick and coughing up green mucus since then. Is that normal with quitting smoking, or have I caught a lengthy cold?

Quit smoking a month ago. Been sick and coughing up green mucus since then. Is that normal with quitting smoking, or have I caught a lengthy cold?

Quit smoking. . .: Congratulations on breaking the habit & quitting smoking! In general, tobacco smoke tends to deaden cilia, little hairs that sweep debris out of breathing tubes. After you quit smoking, cilia come back to life & start removing junk that's been building up all the time you were smoking. That's why many ex-smokers report worse cough after quitting! But stick with it so that cilia can clean up lungs!
