Can you tell me about inject fragmin (dalteparin) daily?

Anticoagulant: Frag in is derived from heparin, a naturally occurring anticoagulant. It is not usually given chronically since oral anticoagulants are easier and cheaper, but there are exceptions such as pregnancy, in some cancer patients, and where oral agents failed. Fragmin (dalteparin) is often used temporarily to prevent clotting or initiate treatment of a blood clot. Long term use can cause osteoporosis. ...Read more

Help plz! Can plavix and fragmin (dalteparin) be taken together?

Increase bleeding: Both of these medications affect your ability to clot by different pathways. While they do not interact in the body to create any toxic combination, they do have an ADDITIVE affect on thinning your blood and creating the potential of having a major bleeding problem. These are both prescribed medications and this SHOULD be discussed with your doctor. ...Read more

Been on fragmin (dalteparin) injections for a year. D-dimer showing normal but having the exact same symptoms of a pe again. So confused?

Been on fragmin (dalteparin) injections for a year. D-dimer showing normal but having the exact same symptoms of a pe again. So confused?

See your doctor: Fragmin (dalteparin) treatment for a year implies a significant coagulation problem, and your statement suggests that you have had prior pulmonary embolism. The d-dimer being normal, means there is no significant clot formation, but since you are having pulmonary symptoms again, you should see your doctor for help. ...Read more

Why are some people injected with fragmin (dalteparin) instead of aspirin?

Why are some people injected with fragmin (dalteparin) instead of aspirin?

Very different: Medications, with different mechanism to reduce the formation of blood clots and different risks of bleeding complications. The choice of which one is very dependent on a person's underlying problem, like aspirin being used for preventing heart attacks versus Fragmin (dalteparin) for treating pulmonary embolisms (blog clots of the lung.) ...Read more

What blood tests are needed when taking fragmin (dalteparin) to make sure your blood is "thin" enough? Was on warfarin...Is INR meaningless now? 2 uedvts, ttc

None: Fragmin is supposed to work without checking the inr. Depending on what your doctor is doing sometimes they just keep you on Fragmin or switch you back to coumadin (warfarin). I would touch base with your doctor. ...Read more

Bad cramps light period, just stopped fragmin (dalteparin) after a year (ready for gall bladder op) could it be related? Suffered from recurring PE's

Fragmin (dalteparin) and menses: I would not think so. I cannot think of any specific interaction between Fragmin (dalteparin) (low molecular weight heparin) stopping and your symptoms. Please see your gyn provider if cramps continue. Hope this helps. Good luck with the surgery. ...Read more

I have a broken ankle and I am in a cast I have got a bruise near my toes it's little but has just appeared I am on fragmin (dalteparin) for 6 weeks what do I do?

I have a broken ankle and I am in a cast I have got a bruise near my toes it's little but has just appeared I am on fragmin (dalteparin) for 6 weeks what do I do?

See your doctor: The bruise could be pooled blood from the fracture because gravity causes it to accumulate in your feet. However, as you are on fragmin (dalteparin) any bleeding of concern should be discussed w/your doctor. They can determine the appropriate evaluation & if necessary remove the cast, image and test in the office and replace appropriately. It's important to keep your doctor apprised of bleeding while on Fragmin (dalteparin) ...Read more

I'm on fragmin (dalteparin) and I'm pregnant but the baby is sick and will not survive and I may miscarry. Will I hemerrage dangerously if this happens?

I'm on fragmin (dalteparin) and I'm pregnant but the baby is sick and will not survive and I may miscarry. Will I hemerrage dangerously if this happens?

Likely no: From your history I see that you have a history of dvt. Women with this are typically on a 40mg dose of fragmin, (dalteparin) which is a prophylactic dose. Pregnancy actually increases your chances of blood clot, which you likely already know. If you likely are going to miscarry, consider making sure you're on a prophylactic dose, not a therapeutic dose of the medication. A therapeutic dose could hemorrhage. ...Read more

I'm on 15000 iu of fragmin (dalteparin) daily (150lbs). Is this considered prophylactic dose? I'm pregnant but may miscarry. Should I worry about haemorrhaging?

Dalteparin: This dose sounds like a treatment dose rather than a prophylactic dose. Anti coagulation does carry a risk of hemorrhage. Discussions with your health care team seems in order to address concerns. ...Read more
