You also have to watch anti-aging creams, as they contain high levels of vitamin a. A balanced diet and a good multivitamin usually solves the problem. 1- 50mcg zinc and 2- 1000mcg biotin each per day. Is this safe? Zinc for sexual health and biotin for hair/nails/skin.
Safe yes. Effective?: Biotin and zinc are found naturally in a normal diet. Supplementation is rarely needed. The RDA of biotin is about 30 mcg/day. Whether high dose supplement promotes healthy hair/skin/nails is unknown, but it's probably safe. The RDA of zinc is about10 mg/day. I suspect you're taking 50 mg not 50 mcg ,which is safe, but there's no evidence that supplement beyond the RDA has any health benefits. ...Read more

Probiotics basically replace some of the loss of the good bug and hopefully restore the balance. Need for every day? Maybe not, but can use it, especially yummy yogurts. Good luck. ...Read more
Can a daily multivitamin alone provide the same high levels of antioxidants and zinc as the areds formulation?
Depends: It depends on the multivitamin. Several of them have doses of the areds supplements which are similar or equal to those of the areds study. In addition, the areds 2 study demonstrated that 25mg of zinc (a level not much higher than most multivitamins) was just as effective as 80 mg. Bottom line - read the label to be sure. Also, some of the the areds vitamins are available with a multivitamin. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
