Is it safe to take glucosamine, chondroitin, msm, vitamin d, calcium citrate, multivitamin, l arginine, l lysine, l ornthinine, Prilosec together?
Should be fine: I don't see any significant problems taking all of these supplements. If you have any side effects, however, it may be a challenge to know which is the culprit. Typically, side effects from these are minimal or not existent. If you are taking the prilosec due to the others causing GI complaints, you may want to reconsider this strategy. ...Read more

There : There are a few ways to get more vitamin d. Diet: few foods are naturally high in vitamin d, but many are supplemented. Foods with the highest sources are: - fish such as salmon (sockeye), mackerel, tuna, sardines and cod liver oil - fortified dairy such as milk, yogurt and margarine (check the labels) - fortified orange juice - fortified cereals - egg yolks and beef liver you can also take vitamin supplements available over the counter. Sunlight also helps your skin synthesize the active form of vitamin d, though you need to be very careful about too much sun exposure leading to cancer. Be careful.: Regardless of what you have read on "natural health" web sites, there is no credible evidence that oral vitamin d is an effective treatment for psoriasis. High doses can raise your calcium levels to the point where you can develop kidney stones and other serious medical problems. 800-1000 iu is a safe daily dosage to prevent vitamin d deficiency. ...Read more

Ttc, taking vit B6 100mg, 500mg vit c and a mum to be multi vit as luteal phase 9-11 day once pregnant should I stop vit B6 and vit c straight away?
Why?: Vitamin b6 and vit. C are totally safe during pregancy. Is strongly advise everyone take at least 1000 mg of vit c 2x/day as a preventive measure and feel it is wise during pregnancy. Your pre-natal will probably provide adequate b6 (though many people benefit from higher doses than many pre-natals supply) so it may not be necessary but there is no need to stop it "straight away.". ...Read more

Why Supplements?: Since you're 17 years old, I am concerned that you are spending time and money wasting it on the supplements that you listed. While some of the substances are present in a healthy diet, there is actually no reason you should be taking them in the form of a supplement. You should be getting all the vitamin D you need in a healthy diet, and the other things, except Prilosec, are unproven. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

18 grams/day or more: Studies have been done using up to 18 grams of Inositol per day and found it safe & well-tolerated with few mild side effects. If it works for you it's better than drugs as it's safer & less habit-forming, but also try exercise, meditation & counseling. Many other supplements may help as well- see http://www.lef.org/Magazine/2011/3/The-Chemistry-of-Calm/Page-02 Also consider classical homeopathy. ...Read more

Probably 12 g daily: An increase in inositol in the brain seems to be one of the outcomes of ssri treatment, so it's sensible to consider what might happen if one simply takes inositol. Studies have shown that it seems to work like the ssris. One study found that 6 g a day helped with depression, though 12 g were required in a double-blind study. Sometimes it's difficult to tolerate because of flatulence and cramps. ...Read more
Doesn't have one: As far as i can tell. Inositol is a sugar, and it is broken down in the stomach and first part of the intestines to simple sugars that are absorbed and then metabolized for energy in both the body and brain. The right dose: Inositol, one of the B vitamins, is not formally indicated for the treatment of OCD and has some interactions, including one with Lithium, that can be dangerous.
