Plant vs fish omegas: The type of omega 3 fatty acids (including dha) in plants are shorter in fatty acid chain length than the ones in fish. Our bodies use then longer chains much more efficiently, perhaps 6-10 times more efficiently. ...Read more
(28 male) hb 11.5, hct 35.9, MCH 25.3, uibc 380, serum iron 18, iron saturation 5, serum ferritin 5. Have taken oral iron drops? Any concerns?
IDA - cause?: The best measure of iron deficiency anemia (ida) is serum ferritin (which is low here). The gold standard is a bone marrow biopsy (bmb), but that is rarely needed. The real question is what is the cause of the ida in a 28 year old male? Iron can help improve the iron stores and ability to produce rbcs and raise hgb. Need to find root cause. ...Read more
12 years post op rny, iron 20 & vitamin d at 10. Seeing a new dr that hasn't worked with deficient gastric bypass, is 325ferrous 3x and 2000d 1x okay?
Nutrition!: A gastric bypass is a very complex nutrition situation. If your physician has not dealt with it much i would suggest asking for a referral to a nutritionist or a bariatric center. That being said, the dosage of iron is fda approved treatment for iron deficiency, and the vitamin d is a reasonable amount. You have many nutrient levels that should be monitored and carefully watched! ...Read more

Any symptoms?: Why did your doc order those tests? Are you feeling tired? Do you have really heavy periods? The hemoglobin is a little low, but not severely low. You are a little iron deficient. You may benefit from taking iron and a stool softener if you don't get enough in your diet. But talk to your doc who ordered the tests, they may have more info. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Depends . . .: Whether any given antibiotic works depends upon whether the infection is caused by a sensitive bacteria. For instance, common cold is caused by a virus and thus won't be affected by any antibiotic. Anyway, dalacin c is a brand not sold in the states. Whether the generic Clindamycin will work "correctly" depends upon what caused your infection. Ask your doc for culture & sensitivity. ...Read more

I take a multivitamin plus vitamin c, d, all b's with niacin and fish oil, calcium, red yeast rice, should I take the vitamin magnesium with these & why?
I don't like it.: Truth be told, I don't like combining Niacin with the red yeast rice as they can both have toxic effects upon the liver. I hope you're having your liver blood enzyme levels monitored on that combination. Adding Magnesium to all of this is not my concern as I don't see any issue in that as long as your doses of all these other medications are not excessive. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Hi. I'm 19 boy. I wanna buy calcium vitamin D and I wanna know the maximum of daily dosage I can take.
Why do you feel: you need calcium? If you don't have lab tests to support this it's best not to take it. Just to answer your question, the US RDA for calcium is 1000 mg daily. Having co-factors like D3, K, etc. help it to go to your bones. I see that you have prostatitis and depression. The D3 can help w/depression and mood. Please see your doc for more guidance.
