Not specific: The signs & symptoms of hypothyroidism are not specific for hypothyroidism (not a single one). Recheck your thyroid labs. If they're normal, your symptoms are due to something else. Having said that, I'm happy to do a trial of Cytomel with the Synthroid (thyroxine) in patients who want to try as long as I don't make them hyperthyroid. Some people report feeling better with comparable labs taking a little T3. ...Read more

What could cause frequent pvcs (benign) daily? Bupropion XL 150mg 3x daily, Prozac (fluoxetine) 20mg, or the combo? Also take 200mg modafinil, levothroid 88mcg.

What could cause frequent pvcs (benign) daily? Bupropion XL 150mg 3x daily, Prozac (fluoxetine) 20mg, or the combo? Also take 200mg modafinil, levothroid 88mcg.

Your medications: The Modafinil is a stimulant which can cause abnormal hearth rhythms. Your levothroid, if not properly dosed could do it as well, ask your doctor for a blood test to make sure that dose is not too high for you. Being 58 years old, you could have heart problems unrelated to the medications. You should see a doctor to get this evaluated. ...Read more

T4-7.7, T3 Uptake 7.7, TSH 1.41 is this normal??

Yes: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your results are normal. Looking for brand name for synthetic T4 that doesn't convert to t3 (liothyronine).

Looking for brand name for synthetic T4 that doesn't convert to t3 (liothyronine).

ALL T4: Converts to t3 (liothyronine) inside each cell as needed. It's supposed to do that to keep intracellular t3 (liothyronine) levels normal. Why would you want to not have T4 to t3 (liothyronine) conversion? You would then develop hypothyroidism. ...Read more

Lab data: It is very difficult, if not impossible to interpret lab data in the absence of clinical information or relevance. My advice is to discuss this with the doctor who ordered these tests and not try to self-diagnose over the internet. Best wishes. ...Read more

My TSH is 9.75, T3 (liothyronine) is 2.10 and T4 is 0.73. I am taking 50 mg Thyroxine everyday. Is this enough or should i increase my dose?

My TSH is 9.75, T3 (liothyronine) is 2.10 and T4 is 0.73. I am taking 50 mg Thyroxine everyday. Is this enough or should i increase my dose?

Need more: TSH is still high. If you have been on same dosage for more than 6 weeks, you should talk to your primary. If dosage has been adjusted recently, you need to give it time for TSH to come down. Typically takes four to six weeks. You can also request a consult on health tap for a charge. ...Read more

I have hypothyroidism ( hashimoto`s disease ) I take 150 mcg of levothyroxine, is that okj?

Depends: Every person who needs thyroid medication, has to have their dose individualized, based on both their clinical symptoms and their labs. So one person might be on 150 mcg and another similarly sized and affected person might only be on 75 mcg and yet, based on their symptoms and labs, they are on the correct dose. So, truly the answer depends on a trained physician's skill and recommendations. ...Read more

Endocrinologist says my thyroid 2 low. Tsh-3gen 6.30 FTI 2.4 TotT4 8.8 T-uptake 27.8 wants to increase meds. I have no T gland. No symp. What's low?

Thyroid hormone.: We all need thyroid hormones for proper health. If you had your thyroid removed, you will have to take thyroid replacement meds for the rest of your life. If you are taking them, the level has to be monitored to be sure you are getting enough for your body to function normally. If your level is low, the medicine is increased and the level is rechecked regularly to make sure it is stays normal ...Read more

Too aggressive: With the numbers you're presenting I'm not sure who put the idea of doing IV iron into your thought process. Hb-13 for age 74 isn't far off of expected norms for age. If you want to do SOMETHING check thyroids, serum zinc, serum magnesium, & serum Vitamin D. Eat more spinach, beans, dried fruit, seafood, & poultry.
