Why might someone suddenly have cystic pimples?

Why might someone suddenly have cystic pimples?

Don't ask why: If this is a young person, don't look for an explanation for cystic acne. There's nothing you can change about hygiene, sex, lifestyle, or diet that will make it go away. You will probably need isotretinoin. If you're an adult, it may be a warning of one of the unusual glandular diseases. Usually it never gets explained. Manage it with strong meds. Don't try to solve it non-medically. ...Read more

Several months: The next time you get a large acne cyst like that it is best to go to the dermatologist, so it can be injected with cortisone. I failed popping my cystic pimple. Now it's still got puss, and it's inflamed and purple. Is there a way of treating this at home?

Cystic acne: Popping pimples/cysts not a good idea: can drive infection deeper. Warm-hot compresses can draw cyst to head so it opens on its own & drains. But best treatment is to see dermatologist for definitive care of acne: topical meds + oral antibiotics; possibly accutane-like product if condition is severe. Should also be checked for polycystic ovarian ds by doc. ...Read more

I have got a massive cystic pimple in my eyebrow, it really hurts and seems to be becoming bigger. Is there anything I could do about it at home?

My sympathies: Pimples are no fun where ever they appear. The brow is a bit sensitive and a pimple there will be more uncomfortable. Try using local heat by putting a washcloth under very warm, (not hot) water and laying it over the brow 4-5 times per day for 4 minutes at a time. It might need to be opened in some way - start by asking your parents to help. ...Read more

I have very clean skin and yet I still get huge cystic pimples. I know genetics is a factor but there's gotta be something that can help me?

Immune problem?: Some people, like Samoans, have poor neutrophil function and tend to get boils. Suggest an immunology consult. Many suggest bleach bathes for the whole family to eradicate staph--1 cup bleach in a bathtub every week, then once a month, and bactroban (mupirocin) for the nostrils to counteract staph colonization. If it is localized to the face and back, it is likely cystic acne--see a dermatologist. ...Read more

Dermatologists usually treat single cysts with an anti-inflammatory injection or several cysts with oral medication. Acne scars are helped with retin a (tretinoin) (rx) and/or laser. ...Read more
