Can my aborted fetus have normal karyotype but have cystic hygroma&above normal N.T at the same time?did it deserve that doc decide abortion?

Certainly: A fetus can have normal karyotype and still have any one of a large variety of really bad congenital defects. That means many bad birth defects happen in babies who have normal karyotypes. As we each walk our journeys in life, we must make the best decisions we can, with the information we have at hand... people make the best call they can, and then move on, to the promises that the future holds. ...Read more

Primary CMV infectn: You only test positive for CMV IgM when you have had a recent primary infection. You then have livelong immunity provided by CMV IgG. The timeframe needs to be checked by someone with expertise, but evidence of positive IgM means that you had a primary infection in pregnancy, which may have devastating effects on the fetus. You will not be at risk in future pregnancies because of immunity. ...Read more

Doc terminated my preg. bec fetus had cystic hygroma, aborted fetus's cytogenetic lab test result: apparently normal female karyotype, plz explain??

Fetus was a girl: "Normal female karyotype" just means the fetus was genetically a girl. It means there were 2 of each chromosome (contrast that with Down syndrome, where a fetus would have 3 of chromosome #21). So, "normal female karyotype" doesn't have a particular special meaning, but only that she was genetically a girl. ...Read more

I was 12 wk preg. fetus had cystic hygroma&above normal N.T&generalized edema, my Dr. decided abortion, was it the right decision?

12 wks fetal hydrops: That early in pregnancy, edema is hydrops, generalized; an increased nuchal translucency will be seen, which later in pregnancy may turn into a cystic hygroma, unless septation was already present--as seen in severely affected 45X (Turner syndrome) fetuses. Many other potential causes, but prognosis of hydrops this early is dismal. An amniocentesis prior to abortion allows chromosomal analysis. ...Read more

Patience, expectancy: Your betaHCG may take several weeks to return to normal depending on the gestational age at which your pregnancy was terminated. If you have no pain, no excessive bleeding, no fever or other symptoms, there is little cause for alarm. Otherwise, be patient. If you remain concerned, you may want to repeat your HCG in another week or so. ...Read more
