Cystic Acne (Overview)

Acne cysts are large nodules developing deep within the dermis, or second layer of skin. They are painful, disfiguring, and may cause deep scars. There is often a genetic predisposition to cystic acne. Treatment usually requires systemic medication including oral isotretinoin, and should be started early, before the scarring is established.

What can I do for cystic acne? Any home remedies?

No: Deep cystic acne always requires an rx, and probably you will go on at least a systemic antibiotic, which is generally safe. Dermatologists have big guns for this. I have used many medicines & topical creams, acne always returns after stopping it. Can you recommend any natural remedy for treating cystic acne?

Natural Approaches: Hello,
Acne is powerful. While isotretinoin is not your only option, natural remedies have proven themselves to simply be weaker than their chemical competitors.
Think about organic detergents and soaps. Same deal, they are just weaker and may only work for less resistant situations.

Several Options: If the cystic acne is severe, Accutane is still an excellent option. It works and the risks are small. Please tell me if there is any cure for cystic acne?

Don't worry.: Although the term "cure" is misleading for any chronic condition, the answer is yes, you can totally inactivate and prevent cystic acne with or without oral medications.

It often times requires a tight relationship between patient and practitioner.

Medication for cystic acne & saeborrheic dermatitis causing severe migraines. Using isotretinoin, minocycline as HCl BP & desloratadine. Drug reaction?

Stop meds, check eye: If you are having headaches, I would stop the Minocycline and isotretinoin. When given together there is an increased risk of a rare side effect, pseudotumor cerebri. I would have my eyes checked and if no evidence of pseudotumor, restart either the Minocin (minocycline) or isotretinoin, but not both. Migraines can also worsen with Isotretinoin and not affect the eyes, but it definitely needs to be ruled out. ...Read more
