Cystatin C (Overview)

This is a protein found throughout the body. It is excreted through the kidneys and its levels are sometimes used as a better but more pricey screen for early kidney dysfunction than the serum creatinine. My last blood work showed my cystatin c level was 1.15 & c-reactive protein was 1.2. My doctor didn't even mention this. Should i be concerned?

My last blood work showed my cystatin c level was 1.15 & c-reactive protein  was 1.2. My doctor didn't even mention this. Should i be concerned?

The CRP of 1.2 is --: Within normal limits, while I am unsure what the other test is? Ask your pcp about it, but i presume he didn't say anything to you as they were normal. ...Read more

Forget it: The formulas used to estimate kidney function from spot creatinines are actually anti-scientific. They include an adjustment for race "because black people are more muscular." Creatinine where you have it is fine. Be glad for good health and ignore this stuff ...Read more
