Cyst On Tonsil
Had strep that turned to abscess. 8 months later and I still have pain and some swelling on that side. Now I have a cyst on tonsil. What is the issue?
Abscess now cyst: Greetings. I sympathize with you regarding your peritonsillar abscess. Some of my patients suffering the most are those with a PTA. The fact that you still have pain and swelling means that you may need further care and possibly even a tonsillectomy. I feel the cyst is probably unrelated however your surgeon will make that determination. Follow up with your ENT for a recheck. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Oily/metallic taste in mouth for 7 weeks now, also dry. No dental probs. Have yellow cyst on tonsil, no pain. Firm module under ear behind jaw. Help!
See a dentist or ENT: The firm nodule under your ear is the big concern. It could be an affected lymph node or parotid gland. The bad taste and lack of saliva would suggest the latter. The question is why is it firm? Infection, cancer, blockage? Go see a dentist or ENT physician asap and get it checked out. The longer you wait, the worse it will get. And have your throat checked at the same time. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

No: Although this is most likely a benign cyst, it is not small. 9mm is almost 1/3 of an inch. If it is not tender with redness around it, and it has been there for months, I would not worry about it. A 2-3 mm. Cyst is what I would call small. Watch it over the course of 6 months and if it remains the same size, I would not worry, but have an ENT doctor check it to give you some peace of mind. Read more

I get tonsil stones. I've had a white pus cyst on my tonsils for over 6 mths and a specialist advised it is nothing & may go. Is it safe if I pop it?
Yes: Yes it is ok to pop it but beware of a "fun" taste and then do a warm salt rinse afterwards. You might have some slight bleeding so don't be alarmed. You can also have them sucked out with a small surgical suction tip. Connect with my Virtual Practice on Healthtap for any dental questions with my special keycode: DFWMCQ! They found a 9mm cyst on my right tonsil through an mri, for the last 2 years I've been feeling as though I have a lump in my throat, my ENT is telling me to continue with speech therapy, 2nd opinion?
Not to worry: The tonsils in the throat are lined with squamous epithelium (skin). Sometimes the normal growth of this lining can invaginate and grow inwards causing a benign cyst. If there is no redness around the cyst and if does not cause pain or enlarge, I would not worry about it. The question is, is this really a cyst? See an ENT doctor for reassurance. Read more
