Not likely: Fact it is causing pain means you are irritating it with movement (/ it irritates you as well). So short of putting wrist in cast for few weeks to allow it to quiet down...& no guarantee it won't immediately re-aggravate when resume movement of wrist...You will need to see a hand (/plastic) surgeon to have it drained (w/needle, but might recur) or formally removed. ...Read more

Underlying arthritis, old fracture or ligament injury shold be ruled out with an x-ray if you have pain. Once that occurs splinting, injection NSAID may help. Either : Either the ganglion is pressing against a nerve, or mom was right, and the immobilizer you wore was, indeed, too tight. Why suffer? Go see a hand surgeon. Ganglion cysts can be aspirated (drained) and sometimes, a little cortisone injected after the aspiration could prevent it from recurring (as they sometimes do).
