If a lump above the elbow shows by an ultrasound that it is not a cyst then what is it? What will an MRI be able to show?
If it is not: A cyst, then it is a solid mass. There are a variety of possibilities for a solid mass. MRI may be able to narrow down the possibilities, or make a specific diagnosis. For example, if the mass demonstrates fat signal characteristics, it is probably a benign lipoma. Ultrasound cannot provide this kind of soft tissue specificity. MRI also provides superior anatomic delineation. ...Read more

Got an xray of my elbow. Might be fractured. F/u in a week. Dr called, said I have a bone cyst. Should I be worried? What should I do?
Repeat X-ray: Bone cysts are usually of no concern. But they do create a "weak spot" which can fracture. The reason for the repeat xray is because elbow fractures can be very subtle. They become more obvious after 7-10 days. If there is high suspicion for fxr, or fluid in the joint, then repeat xrays are needed. ...Read more
