Heel spur on back of foot &below back of foot. Achilles tendinitis visible bump on the side opposite of the ankle. Been years. Pains unbearable. Help?
Sick Achilles.: Your comments sound like the findings of a previous x-ray exam. I'm not sure what is meant by "bump on the opposite side of the ankle". If it is in the Achilles tendon, then extreme pain, could make sense. It sounds as though there is something amiss with your Achilles tendon. It would make sense to immobilize the ankle, and begin non-weight bearing until tendon imaging studies can be performed ...Read more
Retrocalcaneal spur?: If the bumps are located at or near the site of the achilles tendon attachement to the heel bone (calcaneus), these painless bumps are known as retrocalcaneal bursitis. If foot xrays are taken and reveal a bone spur, then the condition is called retrocalcaneal exostosis. Piezogenic papules: "small lumps" could be due to a variety of skin or soft tissue conditions. One common cause is piezogenic pedal papules which are small white bumps that may form on the outside of the heel. These bumps are more prominent when pressure is exerted on the feet when standing. These papules are normally painless, however, in some cases mild to moderate pain may exist with added pressure to the heel. ...Read more
Have spur on the back of my foot and below my heel. Achilles tendinitis (visible on the back of my foot). Pain is excruciating 24-7-365. What can I do?
Over used heel.: It sounds like you are describing a posterior calcaneal spur with associated Achilles tendinitis. Stopping, or severely reducing, the pull of the Achilles tendon is the first line of treatment. Application of heat and/or cold will help, but the tendinitis inflammation must be reduced and off loading is the best way. Elevated heels on your shoes may help. An evaluation by a specialist is needed. ...Read more
