Was taking 100mg Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) a week ago and doctor switched to 30mg cymbalta. I, want to go alone, can I just stop completely please?
On the Internet?: I think all of us would speak with one voice on this very important subject. We would advise you to not get any advice about your mental health treatment from a stranger. Even a stranger who is a physician. Only your physician who knows you best and who cares for you should be asked this question. Doctor has changed medication from Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) to Cymbalta, what is the main difference please and am now more likely to gain weight please. Thank you?
Cymbalta, Pristiq (desvenlafaxine):
Both medications are dual action antidepressants. At high dose Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) may be a triple action antidepressant.
Short term studies show little weight gain in both meds.
However individuals vary with regard to side effects as well as their response to a particular antidepressant.
Long term studies indicate that similar drugs can cause significant weight gain in susceptible individuals. ...Read more
People have different responses. This is true for all medicines.
Some medicines work better for some people than for others. It's not entirely trial and error, but it can be surprising how differently people respond to medicines.
Changing one medicine to another- the goal is that it would be more effective and cause fewer side effects. ...Read more
Given pristiq (desvenlafaxine) and cymbalta. Those drugs kept me up all night. Is seroquel more sedating?
I was on cymbalta, recently changed to pristiq (desvenlafaxine). Since the change I have noticed an increase in joint pain. What is your thought.
? more effective: Cymbalta may be more effective for pain control. Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) has never been fda approved for pain managment while Cymbalta has. These are somewhat similar meds but I always prescribe Cymbalta for pain control when appropriate because it has the data supporting its effectiveness. ...Read more

I tried celexa, effexor, cymbalta, pristiq, (desvenlafaxine) lexapro, zoloft, wellbutrin, which barely helped. What else could I try? How do u feel about paxil?
Agree w/Dr. Buggie: I agree with dr. Buggie about the need for psychiatric evaluation and ongoing treatment. Wellbutrin does not help with anxiety. Paxil (paroxetine) is a reasonable choice, but whether it's right for you I cannot say. You're also on Adderall xr, which can exacerbate anxiety in some. Psychotherapy is an important part of treatment for anxiety also -- but you didn't mention pursuing that. ...Read more
Taking Cymbalta+Pristiq (cross-titration), Seroquel, (quetiapine) & Remeron. If I get an UTI & need take antibiotics, will it interact w/ drugs or ECT anesthesia?
Just inform Drs.: Treating a UTI is very important so just inform the Dr (s) all about the other conditions and Tx. They can make any needed adjustments and advise you of what to expect. Communication is the key. Tell, ask and stay w/ it till everyone is clear. Also query about wayd to minimize long-term use of so much medication. As soon as possible, try to cut back especially if you add psychotherapy. Best! ...Read more
It is said that cymbalta's serotonin to norephinephrine is 1:1. Does that make it an even ratio...And is it then stronger/weaker than effexor/pristiqe?
Even: Cymbalta has a balanced/even effect on serotonin and norepinephrine, 1:1 ratio of blocking reuptake of both molecules. Technically, that would make it weaker than effexor, (venlafaxine) which has roughly 3:1 norepinephrine to serotonin reuptake inhibition. Clinically however, they are both beneficial for many similar diagnoses, it's just a matter of finding out which is better for each individual. Good luck! ...Read more

Neuro is adding Lexapro 2 my meds, hope u can c my med list now! & on Cymbalta (duloxetine) but then quit Cymbalta (duloxetine) after 2wks. These 2 meds safe 2 take together?
Dose duration matter: Cross-tapering antidepressants is often done to prevent negative side effects from coming off a medicine. Even a medicine that isn't working well enough is often doing 'something' and patients may miss it when it's gone. Although Cymbalta (duloxetine) interacts with A LOT of drugs, Lexapro doesn't. Over a short period (2 weeks), at reasonable doses, there shouldn't be problem. ...Read more
