Cut Yourself Shaving With Rusty Razor Blade
Last night cut myself shaving. Small cut but not deep and it won't stop bleeding. The razor was a tiny (not even enough) rusty. Should I get help??
Yes.: At 24, you are probably up to date on your tetanus, but be sure. Re: the bleeding, you may have hit a tiny vessel. The 1st step to stop the bleeding would be to apply pressure. You can place some gauze pads and wrap them with an ace wrap. Leave this in place for 20 minutes and then check (remove the ace wrap and the outer gauze, leave last piece of gauze in place.) If still bleeding see MD. ...Read more
Should I get tested for HCV if i am barber used a razor blade on me (I didn't see any cuts after that)?
No: Screening for chronic hcv infection is recommended for patients with certain risk factors only. The screening recommendations for europeans are similar to those for americans. ...Read more
Yes and no: Keep in mind that to infect someone there 1-has to be HIV virus, 2-enough virus to transmit infection and 3-have an entry into another human. So. Having said this. Technically speaking yes its possible. Has there been documented cases. Not to my knowledge. Other viruses like hep c is far more likely to be spread like that. Remember the HIV virus dies rather quickally outside the bloodstream. ...Read more

Does KMnO4 kill Clostridium Tetani? An ancient razor blade droped into a KMnO4 sol. Then I picked and got cut. Chances of Tetanus?
Td vaccine or Tdap :
Usually c. Tetani spores can be killed by strong agents like formaldehyde or gluterdehyde. The bacteria is also susceptible to heat.
They are usually responsive to penicillin group of antibiotics. So clean the wound thoroughly to reduce bacteria in the wound and make sure have received a tetanus vaccine within the past 5 yrs. If you have done all these then your chances of getting tetanus are low ...Read more
At barbar shop I got a slight cut on my neck. I am not sure he changed razor blade or not! Almost after 15 min I got cut! Chances of HIV?
Zero risk: Not a single case of HIV transmitted in the barber shop has ever been documented. Even hepatitis B which is far more transmissible on needle-sticks doesn't seem to get transmitted like this. Plus, any barber in his right mind will clean razors -- business would vanish if someone noticed he didn't. ...Read more
My son just cut himself accidentally by the razor blade with fresh blood on it. How chance he gets hiv if that blades used for hiv positive?
Very low risk: People shouldn't share razors, and if had been used very recently and fresh, wet blood really was visible on the blade, there might be a risk. But this is a theoretical risk that probably has never happened; I have never heard of anyone catching HIV by a razor. Presumably you know who used the razor. Is there a reason to believe s/he might have HIV? If so, immediately get your son to his doctor. ...Read more

Topical antibiotic: After cleaning with saline. Apply protective bangade and avoid pressure on area. Joint pain, decreased motion, redness and swelling of the skin can indicate spread of infection from the original site. You should be seen by a physician and may require treatment with extended course of antibiotics. ...Read more

I cut scrotum with rusty razor while shaving I got my tetanus shot 5-9 months ago I washed it out with soap and water, hydrogen peroxide too. What now?
Seriously?: Why would you ever use a rusty blade anywhere on your body--let alone on a sensitive area that would be seriously affected by an infection? I went to a barber for shaving. He used a razor, but somehow I forgot to check whether he did change the blade or not. Can I be HIV infected?
Barber: In general, they do. In fact often they get a new razor and apply high heat to it in front of you (which is reassuring), which is likely to kill all the germs. However, I would make sure that that is done in the future. If the razor was used on a person with HIV before you of course there is a risk of getting the infection ...Read more
