Could a deep cut on the volar side of the thumb cut the extensor tendon while leaving the flexor tendon intact?
2.5 cm cut, top of foot below big toe, 6 stiches. Hallucis longus tendon was partially cut, wearing a cam boot. Is it ok to be on feet 5 hours?
Don't even ask.: This is an example of one of those hypotheticals that that surgeons are expected to have an answer for without knowing all the details. After practicing for almost forty years, my answer has never wavered. "If you have to ask, the answer is NO." ...Read more
During foot reconstruction for foot compartment syndrome damage, cut plantar fascia off my heel bone. Will it scar back to heel or remain floating?
Will i need foot surgery for focal longitudinal split tear of the peroneus longus tendon, tenosynovitis of the flexor tendons, or a non visualized atf?
MAYBE: For the flexor tenosynovitis, no; PT, rest w/ a boot, NSAID's may help. "Non-visualized ATF?" I would have to see you clinically. Do you have an unstable ankle? "Split PL tendon"-I would start w/ a boot or brace, maybe PT. If it does not get better and it hurts, may need repair. Good luck! Dr. Latva ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Peroneal tendons subluxing. Extensor retinaculum repair just failed. Cavus foot from CS. Can both retinacula (2) & cavus be fixed at once? Techniques?
Varies: It varies quite a bit, depending in part on the severity of the injury to the TFCC. Some people may have a very mild injury and do fine without even immobilization, while others can have injuries severe enough they need surgery. Initial immobilization is appropriate for many TFCC injuries to see if they will heal. May want to discuss specifics if your injury with your MD. ...Read more
(labral tear-pt & injection haven't helped) surgeon wants to cut hip flexor tendon & repair labrum - is cut necessary? Will it create more problems?
Depends: Depends somewhat based upon your problem. If it is only the label tear itself, then a repair would be sufficient. He seems to think you also have some pathology if the hip flexor itself, which very well may be the case. ...Read more
Tenosynovitis: Tenosynovitis means inflammation of the internal lining/membrane of a tendon. The Flexor Hallucis Longus or Flexor Digitorum longus tendons run along the medial ankle to the bottom of the foot to each respective toe. The FHL and FDL tendons, along with the Posterior Tibial Tendon and a Neurovascular bundle run in the tarsal canal, so, yes, inflammation of any of these tendons can affect Tarsal T ...Read more
Yes and no: Often the tendon sheath need to be opened slightly, especially for the small gangglions TAH appear in the dorsal part of the rwrist near the radiocarpal joint near the distal edge or the extensor retinaculum, in fact if the tendon sheatht or retinaculum os not opened there the ganglion can be missed....And typically it is not repaired. So yes it is "damaged" but not in the sense of the word. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Can i play golf after complete achilles' tendon removed after wound and skin graft is healed and are tendon transfers for Achilles sucessful?
Peroneal retinaculum repaired twice, peroneus brevis to longus tenodesis. New MRI shows hypertrophic tear of peroneus longus. What are my options?
I would try: And figure out what stresses are being placed on the tendon.....For whatever the reason it seems the peroneals have alot of pressure on them.....I would think of how to destrees or remove load from them or whatever is causing them to fail. ...Read more
Injured rotator cuff almost torn in half and my bicep tendon muscle ruptured surgery now trigger finger problems. Normal?
Yes: That sounds pretty typical. The biceps tear and rotator cuff tear occurs together as part of the same degenerative process. The tears (along with the surgery) cause swelling that involves the entire hand. The swelling and inflammation makes trigger fingers worse by swelling the finger tendons that no longer fit through their tendon sheaths. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
