How are reusable and disposable gauze roll bandages different?

How are reusable and disposable gauze roll bandages different?

Often the Same: It is more on how they are intended to be used. Bandages for covering an open wound should never be reused because of the risk of infection. Use them once when they are clean then throw them away. Elastic type bandages e.g. splinting a sprained ankle can be reused because they do not need to be sterile- just clean. ...Read more

In order to relieve the burn pain. Should I dress it like a normal 2nd degree burn with bactine and bandage gauze?

In order to relieve the burn pain. Should I dress it like a normal 2nd degree burn with bactine and bandage gauze?

You need exam: 2nd degree burn can vary widely. Deep 2nd acts more like a 3rd, superficial 2nd acts more like a 1st. Treatment (at the least) would be cleansing frequently with soap/water, removing any dead skin/tissue, and coverage with antibiotic oint like silvadene (silver sulfadiazine). All of this can vary with size/location/depth. If the injury is bigger than a quarter, has inc. Redness, or is over a joint- get to a burn dr. ...Read more

I just got my knuckle bone removed out of my pinky toe15 min ago. Can I have put my sock on? I forgot to ask him. He put gauze and an ACE bandage on.

If the sock fits: More times than not, a stockinette type tube stocking is applied before you leave the operatory. If you were not given one, then by all means wear your sock if it fits over the bandage. It might get a little bloody, but what the heck. ...Read more

Leg cellulitis.......used bacitracin ointment on gauze pads and wrapped in ace bandage for 3 days with little improvement Starting taking 300 mg cib?

What is "cib"?: How do you know you have cellulitis? Most diagnoses of leg cellulitis are not correct. Stasis dermatitis is much more common. This is a sad but common error. If you have cellulitis, or any other cause for red & swollen leg, bacitracin is useless. In fact it frequently causes allergic reactions which make it worse. See a dermatologist. ...Read more

Complete nail torn off finger? I cleaned it with Savlon, covered with Betadine and paraffin gauze and bandaged the finger. I am taking Mybulen tablets for the pain, yet the pain is unbearable when my fingers is bandaged.

Pain: Sorry to hear! You’re doing a good job by keeping it clean and wrapped but it’s going to hurt a lot for awhile. You can try just wrapping it softly. Local anesthetics like lidocaine jelly may help as well but you need a prescription for that. Hang in there ...Read more

And ankle arthroscopy surgery today at about 6:45 am, looked down tonight, and noticed blood came thru plaster stitches gauze and an ace bandage help?

Consult Orthopedist: I would give your orthopedist an immediate call for bloody drainage in an amount significant enough to soak through gauze and a plaster splint. I also note you have symptoms of chills and headache that may or may not be related but raise concerns about local and systemic infection or postop fever. A wound dehiscence is the most serious concern as well as hospital acquired MRSA infection. ...Read more

Could a gauze roll be applied to a scraped injury?

Could a gauze roll be applied to a scraped injury?

Sticks!: Apply an non-stick dressing first, and keep it in place with a gauze roll. Otherwise oozing from the abrasion will make the gauze stick. Be sure your tetanus shot is up to date (if not, get it within 72 hours of injury). Keep the area clean using saline or tap water (or very mild dilute soap if dirty). Apply a light coat of Aquafor (per Dr. Dohan). Keep covered ...Read more

Is it bad to put rolled gauze directly over a cut?

Superfast healing: The real question is what not to do that slows down healing. Avoid using alcohol, peroxide, hibiclens, betadine, and bleach solutions. Inflammation (red, hot, swollen, tender) is important to healing so anti-inflammatories (motrin/advil) are bad. Cover the area with an occlusive dressing changed every other day and protected from trauma. Antibiotics do not help healing unless it is truly infected. ...Read more

Could I remove my abscess drain gauze?

Could I remove my abscess drain gauze?

Wound care: It is a good idea to change the dressings on a wound when they are contaminated or visibly soiled. Hopefully you have a Wound Nurse or someone you can coordinate with- since you want to practice clean technique and of course minimize any pain that might occur. I would expect too you have a follow-up with the doc who did the surgery - so I would call there if you don't have any outpatient resources ...Read more

Dr left gauze in me after childbirth. Reeked till he found and removed it. What can I do?

Discuss it with doc: Unfortunately this happens, it was not intentional. Take this opportunity to discuss it with your doctor and the nurse manager in l&d.This creates an opportunity for the physician and the hospital to examine policies and procedures (such as counting sponges in the labor room which we now do at my hospital). The good news is that there are no long term problems that result from this. Soak and remove: Soak and remove it, or it may get trapped in the wound as the skin heals and cause ongoing irritation. If you cannot remove it easily, go to an UC or your doc and they can apply numbing agents and remove it. IF you have not had a tetanus booster in the last 10 years, get one within 72 hours of cutting yourself. ...Read more
