Trouble: These are very difficult treatments to diagnose and even harder to treat. Every patient is different, so they all require different treatments to find which works best. A baseball player does not hit a homerun every time he steps up to the plate. Keep trying to find the best meds that work. Sometimes seeing a 2nd specialist can help to give more thought to your illnesses. ...Read more

I've failed tx w/ other abx for acne vulgaris. Can't course #6 of Accutane till sept. Can zithromax help? I read a study that yielded great results.

Tip: I'm glad that Isotretinoin has been helpful and that you're complying. Topical clindamycin's a consideration here even if the systemic antibiotics failed; another option that many folks don't know is a trial of spironolactone. ...Read more

Was anyone ever actually been cured of or into remission cancer using Gerson therapy?

Was anyone ever actually been cured of or into remission cancer using Gerson therapy?

Not likely. : Trust the nci, not those proposing this! wikipedia says when gerson's claims were examined by the national cancer institute (nci), they found that his records lacked the basic information necessary to systematically evaluate his claims. The nci concluded that his data showed no benefit from his treatment. The therapy is scientifically unsupported and potentially hazardous. Try www.Quackwatch.Org. ...Read more

Unclear question: Cured of What? It usually takes randomized controlled trials to assess the safety and efficacy of drugs. It would not be safe to rely on street gossip for treatment of whatever may be ailing you. ...Read more

Hi, recently diagnosed officially w/ cvid. Is there success w/ xylitol nasal rinses to prevent sinus infection when i catch a cold? Don't want ivig tx

May be: Nasal rinses with xylitol may be more effective than simple saline solutions. They may not prevent sinusitis, but will help reduce their occurrence. This does not mean that you do not need replacement ig. That depends on what your overall symptoms, what kind of infections you had and so forth. Even if you need igg, it can be given by subcutaneous infusion (into the skin of the abdomen or thigh). ...Read more

I was thinking of using Lindane for pubic lice its not recommed for people with epilepsy like myself.its it affective.permethrin and lotion failed.

Lindane probably OK: Permethrin is extremely effective and reliable. Are you sure it failed? Are you still seeing live (moving) lice, not just nits (eggs) attached to pubic hair? Also, itching can take up to 2-3 weeks to clear up, even when treatment is successful. But if you need lindane, it should be safe if not grossly overused or ingested. But check with the doctor treating your epilepsy if in doubt. ...Read more

Do probiotics really fight off c diff? Looking at 3d round of antibiotics in 2 months. Also, is a pill form or edible (yogurt, drink) more effective?

Do probiotics really fight off c diff? Looking at 3d round of antibiotics in 2 months. Also, is a pill form or edible (yogurt, drink) more effective?

Fecal transplant...: May be helpful with refractory c.Diff. Probiotics include: lactobacillus, acidophilus, bifidobacter, sachromyces boulardes, but are not "stand-alone" treatment for c.Diff. Probiotics may provide (in some patients): less gas, regulated bowels, prevent ; most help treat infections (like c.Diff), improve digestion, decrease inflammation. Look into florastor, but definitely talk with your treating doc. ...Read more

Non-diagnostic: Location is not typical of migraine, and certainly not consistent with ms. Might be a result of remote trauma, birth issue, or even a vascular area or frank artifact. However, you deserve to know what your doctor does or does not want to do with this, so, schedule appt and find out where he intends to proceed. ...Read more

I recently read about opko's 4k score prostate test which is approved for use in the u.K. Seems very promising and could eliminate a lot of biopsys.?

Public policy: The impact of widespread screening by bloodwork and aggressive treatment of prostate cancer has had little effect on overall mortality. But it will be difficult to change this in an era in which practice is driven largely by fears of malpractice for missing a cancer "that showed up on blood work." glad you're reading, and thanks. ...Read more
