It depends: All medical decisions have to balance risks with benefits. For many procedures, higher age carries higher risk. There is almost never a hard age cutoff, but if the risk of death or other complications is very high, from age or other reasons, the surgeon may judge the benefit too minimal to justify the risk- "first do no harm". A surgeon should be able to explain individual decisions about risk. ...Read more

Is there any possible cures for costrochondritis? I was diagnosed with this in 2009. It has caused me to not be able to play some spors. As an active 14 year old, I need some answers. I have asked all around. Can you help?
This condition usually resolves with anti-inflammatory medications like Ibuprofen taken every 6 hours for a few days. If you have tried this and it did not work then your doctor may want to put you on a short course of steroids. Also if the above have been tried with no success your doctor should consider another possible diagnosis. Have you had an ekg, chest x-ray and blood tests? If not talk to your doctor or have a parent or guardian talk to a doctor about other possibilities.
Best of luck. ...Read more
