Normal chest X-ray & abdominal/pelivic CT scan, but positive TB skin test? I have low grade fevers, extreme fatigue & swollen lymph nodes. Tb?

Ct uses xrays taken an 360 degrees combined with a computer to see"inside" the body. The table moves as the xray tube and detectors spin around the patient 10 times a second or more! The image shows excellent soft tissue detail, enhanced with injection of intravenous contrast or oral contrast. This way the body is shown in slices, in any plane, usually axially, but ...Read more
Variable: The actual reading time for a ct depends on how complicated the findings are, but around 20-30 minutes. However, the imaging center may perform many many scans per day, so it may take a while before your study is read. Turn around time for a routine exam is usually a day or two. Again, this varies from one imaging center to the next. The report is then sent to the doctor that ordered the ct. ...Read more
Doubt it: If any irregularities in the intestinal wall were found, it would be just that, irregularities. Their presence would suggest a problem but the overlap with other possible conditions would make the information inconclusive. A normal study would also not rule out the condition. ...Read more
Would a CT scan of the chest abdomen and pelvis see something wrong with the gallbladder? And would it se gallstones present or previous? Had normal CT scan 2 weeks ago but I have bad pain right there
Yes: A ct scan will pick up most gallstones as well as thickening and swelling of the gallbladder and bile ducts. The only thing a ct scan does a lousy job with is detecting if the gallbladder has a hard time emptying bile. This can cause pain as well. You need a hida scan to detect this. ...Read more
Negative beta HCG on 07/10/14. CT scan chest abdomen pelvis w/contrast 07/17/14. Positive beta HCG on 07/30/14. Risk to fetus from CT scan?
Is a CT-scan of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis all in one scan at the same time more radiation than a single chest-CT? I was told that it was not.
There is more: There is more radiation from a CT depending on how many areas are scanned. It’s possible the Dr misunderstood and meant an XRay of the chest abdomen and pelvis is less radiation than a single CT of chest, which would be a true statement! ...Read more

I have recently had a CT scan of abdomen and pelvis - no diseases.... Can I feel secure now or is a CT scan not that specific?
Usually: Today ct scans are quite reliable for most of the really bad things that can be a problem (they can be ruled out). However you should see a dr to correlate your symptoms with your ct findings for the best assessment and recommendations. ...Read more
Not usually one: Radiation dose from ct is about 100 times chest x-ray. However the exact number of scans to induce cancer is not precisely known. If ct is necessary for diagnosis it is very accurate tool. Most institutions have reduced amount of exposure in recent years. If same diagnosis can be made with mr or ultrasound, non ionizing radiation, they should be chosen. Certain medical problems ct is necessary. ...Read more

Ct scan of pelvic abdomen showed 7mm lung spot on lower left lung dr now ordered a chest CT scan wondering why?
To see the rest of: ...Your lungs. The abdominal study only shows about a third of your lungs. Your doc will need to see the rest to know what to do. Lung nodules are very common and the vast majority are benign scar (s). Most of the time we just use the ct to follow and make sure there is no growth. There are other tests (pet scan for example) that can be useful when there is concern for cancer. ...Read more
My CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis showed sclerosis on both sides of the SI joints, indicating sacroiltis. Is this indicative of multiple sclerosis?
Of course not: "Sclerosis" is a general term that refers to pathological hardening of tissue due especially to calcification or overgrowth of fibrous tissue. In the CNS, where there is no fibrous tissue, it refers to an analogous process of tissue degeneration. Multiple sclerosis by definition occurs only in the CNS, not in joints. This sort of information is readily obtainable from a quick web search. ...Read more

Hypothetically if somebody had melanoma on their lower back and had a CAT Scan of abdomen and pelvis 4 other reasons. Would melanoma show up on CAT?
It could: Potentially show up on an abdomen/pelvis CT, depending on the size. There are no specific features of melanoma on CT, so, if small, it would look the same as the myriad of benign nevi, keratoses, cysts, etc... that are so common, and might not be mentioned as a relevant finding in the report. ...Read more
