Smoker I've been coughing up phlegm tinged with blood at times I had a CT scan it states that their is cystic changes and a parenchymal density lung
?

Parenchymal density: is a very nonspecific term, unfortunately. It could mean anything from scar to mass to pneumonia to collapse of a small lung segment. Without the images to review, it is difficult to determine. Likewise, there are both acute and chronic causes of cystic changes. The nonspecific report verbiage needs to be interpreted in conjunction with the images themselves and your clinical picture. ...Read more

Lung (Definition)

Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more

What is the mass found on a lung during a ct-scan be?

What is the mass found on a lung during a ct-scan be?

Infection, Cancer, +: Infection, hemorrhage, tumors (benign and malignant (cancerous)) fluid and even fibrosis can have a similar appearance. If it is mostly calcified, it is likely benign, old infection called a granuloma. Comparison to older scans can help determine if it has grown. The concern is whether or not it is cancer. Recommend seeing a primary care provider, perhaps a pulmonologist consult and pet/ct. ...Read more

Possible cause mass on lung by ct scan?

Many things: The general categories are Infection, Cancer, Non-cancer tumors, collapsed lung, blood, fluid, and more. Does inflammatory vs malignancy in the remarks of CT scan of lungs with 203cc solid mass mean its cancer?

Does inflammatory vs malignancy in the remarks of CT scan of lungs with 203cc solid mass mean its cancer?

No: No. It is at times difficult to differentiate inflammation/infection from a malignancy on ct. Pet/ct may more helpful where there is suspicion. However, this may also limited in differentiating infection/ inflammation from cancer. That being said, imaging does not arrive at a pathological diagnosis. When possible, any suspicion of lung cancer requires pathological confirmation through a biopsy. ...Read more

My husband had a CT scan which picked up a mass in his colon probably malignant. His liver and lung bases clear what about rest of lungs?

Need diagnosis: The first step is to confirm the diagnosis and find out for sure what the mass is and if it is a cancer. Colon cancer almost always goes to the liver first, so if the liver is clear, it's often possible to cure the condition with an operation to remove the primary mass. ...Read more

Mom has been coughing continuously she had lung collapse got CT scan an xray no mass growth found she also has thyroid and her diaphragm is elevated?

Pulmonologist!: Hi. Is it safe to assume her pneumothorax has been treated? I assume so. It sounds like she's had the phrenic nerve damaged on the side with the paralyzed diaphragm. Coughing can be a result of many things. She needs a good pulmonologist to help her! ...Read more

My mom has stage 4 metastatic cancer of lungs, but primary is unknown. Her gallbladder mass, ca is 19.9 which is high but her liver is alright. She got a CT scan done three months ago and her gallbladder seemed fine. Could it be gallbladder cancer?

Gb unlikely: Your mother has stage IV cancer with mets to lung. I am sorry. If a ct showed the gallbladder normal 3 months ago then it is unlikely. Knowing if it is adenocarcinoma or squamous may help. But focusing on the forward progress and implementing a plan she wants is the most important thing. A supportive family and a clear goal. Hope this helps. ...Read more

Ct Scan (Definition)

Ct scan uses data from a beam of xrays and reconstructs a cross sectional image of your body. It is a high dose of xrays and used only when the benefits outweigh the risk. Cancer risk is 1 in 500 in children. Also using iodinated contrast might cause transient renal failure in about 5% of patients. (contrast induced nepropathy) most do not explain this to the patient as ...Read more
