Great work: You have been remarkable in your progress and i can only admire and applaud your self-discipline and dedication. Weight loss slowing may simply represent the fact that the percentages are changing, along with the absolute numbers. You might try increasing your exercise regimen slightly (don't hurt yourself), or reducing your intake slightly. ...Read more

Computed Tomography (Definition)

Ct uses xrays taken an 360 degrees combined with a computer to see"inside" the body. The table moves as the xray tube and detectors spin around the patient 10 times a second or more! the image shows excellent soft tissue detail, enhanced with injection of intravenous contrast or oral contrast. This way the body is shown in slices, in any plane, usually axially, but ...Read more

Would CT scan of chest abdomen and pelvis with contrast help diagnosis of celiac disease?

Would CT scan of chest abdomen and pelvis with contrast help diagnosis of celiac disease?

Doubt it: If any irregularities in the intestinal wall were found, it would be just that, irregularities. Their presence would suggest a problem but the overlap with other possible conditions would make the information inconclusive. A normal study would also not rule out the condition. ...Read more

Negative beta HCG on 07/10/14. CT scan chest abdomen pelvis w/contrast 07/17/14. Positive beta HCG on 07/30/14. Risk to fetus from CT scan?

Negative beta HCG on 07/10/14. CT scan chest abdomen pelvis w/contrast 07/17/14. Positive beta HCG on 07/30/14. Risk to fetus from CT scan?

Questions: When did you have sex? How high was the beta? If the beta was low and/or you had sex after the 17th, no risk for the fetus. If the beta was high and you had sex before the 17th, then there is some risk to the fetus. ...Read more

Had a CT scan with IV contrast of thorax and upper abdomen. What can be seen on this scan? Which organs is now checked out?

Lots of things!: Your scan included the base of neck, chest, including lymph nodes, blood vessels, the heart, and lungs, and upper abdomen. There is much to see but hopefully it will be ok. ...Read more

I might need two CT scans this year one for abdomen and one for chest, is that to many, could that many be risk to my health?

Very small risk: If appropriately used, the medical benefit of ct scans far outweighs the potential risks associated with radiation from ct scans. We are all exposed to natural background radiation in normal daily life, and the radiation from a ct scan is not much more than the radiation an average person gets exposed to in a year. ...Read more

I have done 3 separate ct scans. 2 abdomen, 1 chest. The reports do not mention anything about lymphnodes. Does this mean there were no visible ones?

Lymph nodes: It most likely means that there were no abnormal ones. Lymph nodes are normal structures, and, if normal, may not be mentioned on a CT report. ...Read more

Why would a urologist ask for a CT chest scan and bone scan after CT scans of abdomen?

Why would a urologist ask for a CT chest scan and bone scan after CT scans of abdomen?

Many reasons: If ct of abdomen showed abnormality in kidney or bladder suspicious for cancer. Abnormalities in other organs such as liver, pancreas, bowel can also be seen. Ct exam also demonstrates lower lung field and if something a nodule or pleural effusion was visualized. A bone scan is survey looking for metastatic bone disease. Sometimes bone abnormalities suspicious for tumor can also be detected on ct. ...Read more

I've had 6 CT scans in a year. Is this really dangerous for me? Should I be worried about getting cancer now? The CTa were: 1 head, 2 abdomen, 3 chest

I've had 6 CT scans in a year. Is this really dangerous for me? Should I be worried about getting cancer now? The CTa were: 1 head, 2 abdomen, 3 chest

Almost no risk of Ca: Please see: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-much-ct-scans-increase-risk-cancer/ also: 1) Risk of induced Ca from 6 CTs is very, very low. 2) There may be cellular repair at doses as low as CT, limiting cancer induction. (We don't know how much). 3) Whatever the theoretical risk, there must be a good reason to do the CT in the first place. I would worry more about why so many CTs. ...Read more

What is a CT scan of the chest/abdomen/ and pelvis normally looking for?

What is a CT scan of the chest/abdomen/ and pelvis normally looking for?

Need more info.: Trauma, infection and malignancy (cancer) are the most common reasons to do all three at the same time. Doing the test doesn't mean you have the diseases, but the doctors are usually concerned about those three things when they order that set of tests. ...Read more

How long does it take to evaluate CT scan of chest abdomen and pelvis and make a diagnosis?

Variable: The actual reading time for a ct depends on how complicated the findings are, but around 20-30 minutes. However, the imaging center may perform many many scans per day, so it may take a while before your study is read. Turn around time for a routine exam is usually a day or two. Again, this varies from one imaging center to the next. The report is then sent to the doctor that ordered the ct. ...Read more

Hello, I did on 27 April a chest ct scan 64 after one month, 27 May , I did an abdomen+pelvic ct scan 64. Is it dangerous for my health?

Hello, I did on 27 April a chest ct scan 64 after one month, 27 May , I did an abdomen+pelvic ct scan 64. Is it dangerous for my health?

Yes.. But: CT scan has much higher dose of radiation than other immaging methods including plain X ray. It is now trend to avoid it unless absolutly necessary or it is an emergency. Than we have to weight risk and benefits like any other procedure in healthcare. If you needed it is done - whtever outcome it is follow up with your docotr. For future - better avoid it. Again depends on reasons doing it. ...Read more

"spleen top normal, length about 13cm" on a abdomen ct scan. three weeks later a chest ct scan indicated is mildly enlarged. Did it grow in 3 weeks?

Spleen size: My sense is that there is no significant difference in the spleen noted on these 2 studies because of different views, but a radiologist could compare the studies for you to be surer. If the spleen is determined to be enlarged a hematologist could be consulted to look for infectious mononucleosis or other hematologic pathology. ...Read more

I had lung nodule found on ct of abdomen. They r going to do full ct. I recently had clean X-ray of chest. What should I think?

It depends on: the characteristics of the nodule and your risk profile. If you are at low risk(i.e. a nonsmoker), and the nodule is a small smooth rounded incidental nodule, likely it will mean follow up at 6 or 12 months for a couple of years to confirm stability, since the vast majority of these are benign. If it is large and irregular in shape, and you are at higher risk, it becomes more suspicious. ...Read more
