I believe I have what is known as cryptic tonsils. Food gets stuck in my tonsils all the time. Should i look into getting them removed?
Not unless you must.: Tonsillectomy is a last resort. The best way i know of to pop out stones, that helps some but not all, is to get a water pik water flosser from the toothbrush aisle or online and use it to "pressure wash" your throat up to 2x a day as needed. That can sometimes pop out existing tonsilliths (tonsil stones) and prevent new ones from forming, and help bad breath and sore throat. ...Read more

May be unrelated: Cryptic tonsils and tonsil stones by themselves are not dangerous but they can cause some very annoying symptoms. Coughing is not necessarily a sign of tonsil stones. If the particles come out and tickle the throat it can sometimes cause a cough at that time. Not infections: It is really just like craters or divots in the tonsils that collect particles , it is not infectious. They are harmless but can be bothersome if you feel them. Asymmetric tonsils: Unless your throat is very sore or there is pus on your tonsils or you are having very significant difficulty swallowing or breathing, you are probably fine seeing your regular doctor.
