How come eye infection caused my eye to go smaller and how can I get it back to normal cos its been small for over a week and my eye is still abit red?

How come eye infection caused my eye to go smaller and how can I get it back to normal cos its been small for over a week and my eye is still abit red?

It's not: It's not really smaller. It's just that your eyelid is closed more because of the irritation causing it to look smaller. As the infection clears, it should return to normal. See your eye doctor if it isn't getting better.

I have a very painful eye infection (cause unknown). What can I do for the pain?

Eye Pain: If you can ask your eyeMD what is the cause of the infection, it would help. For now, ibuprofen or acetominophen if ok with your PCP will help. Topical drops can help too depending on the reason for the pain.

Could an eye infection cause dementia in the elderly?

Could an eye infection cause dementia in the elderly?

Unlikely: Eye infections are typically self contained and the majority will resolve on their own within 2 weeks. They will not cause dementia: however, dementia can predispose to eye infections secondary to poor blinking which fails to clear the tear film.

While changing used cat litter I think a piece of litter flicked into my eye, I rinsed my eye with water. Can this cause a eye infection?

While changing used cat litter I think a piece of litter flicked into my eye, I rinsed my eye with water. Can this cause a eye infection?

Possibly: It depends on how soiled the litter was & how much you got into your eye. If you rubbed your eye & caused a corneal scratch, this may serve as a nidus for serious infection. Rinsing with copious water or eye rinse plus artificial tear drops is probably sufficient. Your own tears & secretions generally protect your eye from infection. But if worsening discharge, vision change, inc. Redness: C MD.

Can just having an eye infection cause dementia symptoms in an elderly person?

Can just having an eye infection cause dementia symptoms in an elderly person?

Rarely: A very serious eye infection called endophthalmitis can cause severe pain and suffering in all patients; especially the elderly and especially if they only have 1 eye to see with. Any loss of the senses can cause decompensation in the elderly or suspectible patients. A regular mild eye infection would not cause dementia. Dementia is not an effect from an eye infection in general. Good luck...
