Ok to wait 3 weeks: Hi No worries. It's a little hard to say exactly what you have without being able to see the white patch, but what you are describing seems to be ok to wait for the 3 weeks. I definitely understand your concern but please be assured that being seen in a clinic is the best thing. Even if you go to an ER, the will still refer you to be seen in clinic. Hope this helps ...Read more

I have a pink scaly patch on my scalp for a long time which has gotten bigger and will not go away what could it be?

I have a pink scaly patch on my scalp for a long time which has gotten bigger and will not go away what could it be?

Lots of things: but psoriasis is my first thought. Your MD can look at it and tell. If it isn't obvious they can take a sample of the tissue (a biopsy) and tell that way. Very rarely, skin cancer presents this way , too, so see your doctor. It isn't an emergency, but it is important. ...Read more

I have a smal red patch the size of a 1/2 dollar on my scalp, right above where a widows peak would be. What could it be, and how should I treat it?

Red Patch: What you describe may be a simple fungal infection of the skin, but it also could be more serious, such as a basal cell cancer. Your age and sun exposure are important information to help your physician treat the area, or biopsy the area to get an accurate diagnosis, to help plan with treatment. ...Read more

What can be done for a patch of dry scalp on my head that is a bit scabby?

Proper diagnosis: Helps. Seeing your doctor to make sure it is seborrhea or dandruff versus a skin infection. For dry scalp /dandruff try tea tree shampoo or Nizoral (ketoconazole) shampoo. There is evidence that dandruff may have a fungal component so tea tree shampoo or Nizoral (ketoconazole) may be very helpful. ...Read more

Why would I be thinning on the crown of my head, and my scalp looks to have red patches in that area??

Why would I be thinning on the crown of my head, and my scalp looks to have red patches in that area??

Fungal/autoimmune: If you have red patches and thinning all in the same area then your doctor will likely need to do an exam with a wood's lamp and take samples such as scrapings of the skin and maybe a hair follicle to rule out fungal infections. Also, clinically we can also recognize whether it's an autoimmune condition. I would recommend having it examined in person. ...Read more

I was wondering, I have alopicia on my scalp, not the scarring kind but patches, i wanted to get a body wave to make it look fuller, will that damage the ?

No: I am assuming what you have described is alpocia areata which is considered an auto immune condition. Standard hair treatments such as coloring, permanents or hair waves are not ordinarily a problem in this type of hair loss. ...Read more

I have small crusty bumps on my scalp. i can pick them off by scrapping with finger or comb. What could it be?

You can: Usually seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis. A dermatologist will help you. Meanwhile you can get 3% salicylic acid (T-Sal, others) shampoo. Apply a few drops of water to the crusts, then a drop of shampoo. Get in shower a few hours later and wash out. Tar shampoo is favored by many but smells of tar. ...Read more
