Crestor Painful Fingers
What can cause my upper thigh to feel painful almost like a burn? I stopped Crestor (rosuvastatin) about 6 mos ago & the pain stopped after 2.5 weeks but is now back w/o statins. No change in activities.
6MO STATIN OF PAIN: If we assume this due to the statin as the scenario certainly sounds a likely cause, and you stopped it, I agree with the questions imposition that 2.5 weeks SEEMS like enough time to pass. Well, its not. And in 17% who stop due to this side effect, pain persists to 6 months. Ouch. Yes and no: Crestor’s maker suggests it should be taken whole and not be crushed, chewed, or broken. There is no reason that it cannot necessarily be crushed, aside from the coating possibly masking the drug’s medicinal taste, but do be aware upon crushing the tablet, some of the coating pieces could remain, kind of how like if you crushed M&M’s, you’d see the difference between chocolate and candy coating. ...Read more

Old thinking: First, goal for LDL is 70. You are way below that and need not try to go even lower. Next, we have changed the guidelines about statins to place less emphasis on a precise LDL with the realization that their main benefit is stabilization of the inner linings of arteries and prevention of unwanted blood clots with no risk of bleeding. Check for myositis?: Doubtful that there would be sudden increase in CPK from consistent dose of statin. May result when dose changed, or other medications that affect metabolism of statin change. If this is not the case, then look for primary muscle problem: myositis comes to mind first. Also profound hypothyroidism and others. ...Read more

You will likely be ok. However I recommend you contact your doctor and/or schedule an appointment. Blood tests should be done to make sure your liver was not affected. If you are experiencing abdominal pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or itching please seek medical care right away. Lastly please make sure all medications are in the appropriate bottle and read the bottle before taking. If the print is too small you can tell your pharmacy and they will make the print larger on all your medications.
Take care. ...Read more
