I am told my Glomerular filtration Rate is 57.6. Does this indicate Kidney disease? Creatinine is 1.0 BUN is 20 total Protein is 7.0 I am 55 w/f

GFR: Your Estimated filtration rate is borderline. This is not a problem itself. The important concern is whether disease exists that might be progressive. Serum creatinine of 1.0 is "normal". So is serum creatinine 1.1. However, creatinine relates to muscle mass. If you are small muscled as a. 55 yo woman, then creatinine of 1.1 or 1.0 may indicate some minor impairment in its excretion. ...Read more

What kind of condition does the asian person have if creatinine is .60 normal but GFR is less at 59 for 28 years old?

You're fine: Many other pathologists and nephrologists agree with me that the "estimated GFR's" are misleading and subscientific. The fact that there's an adjustment for black people "because black people are more muscular" suggests a misuse of data. Many people are being told they're sick when they're not. Your creatinine is perfectly fine and I would stop worrying unless there's something else concerning. ...Read more

Creatinine was 1.0 and GFR was 61 in janurary and in july they are 1.12 and 51 should I be concerned. Donated a kidney june 2008?

Possibly: Gfr is the fluid flow rate between the glomerular capillaries and the bowman's capsule. Gfr just below 60 indicates very mild decrease. Important to have levels rechecked, eat healthy and stay away from medicines and conditions such as massive protein break down taxing the kidney. ...Read more

Yes: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, Your gfr is abnormally low and you should consult a doctor. ...Read more

What is a creatinine clearance rate and GFR?

CrCl & GFR: GFR stands for Glomerular Filtration Rate which is a measure of the filtering function of your kidneys. Creatinine Clearance is one of the methods used to measure a person's GFR and it is often done by measuring the amount of creatinine in a 24 hr urine collection or can be estimated by using an equation called "Cockcroft-Gault" formula. ...Read more

Are creatinine clearance and GFR the same thing?

Sort of: The true glomerular filtration rate is very hard to measure. The creatinine clearance is a practical way of measuring it, which requires a timed urine collection and a blood sample. It is much more accurate then the crude and subscientific estimate of the glomerular filtration rate / GFR from a spot creatinine. ...Read more

My bun is 31 creatinine is1.6, GFR is35.4. Is this really bad?

My bun is 31 creatinine is1.6, GFR is35.4. Is this really bad?

High creatinine: You should be referred to a nephrologist to better answer your question. A nephrologist will take a history and do a physical exam. If you did not have a 24 hour urine collection for a creatinine clearance and protein, you need to have one done. You will also need to have blood work and a renal ultrasound done as well to arrive at a diagnosis of what is causing your creatinine to be elevated. ...Read more
