If creatinine is 1.8 can angio and stenting be done or is it unsafe? What is the safest level of creatinine if person had a heart attack 15 days ago?

If creatinine is 1.8 can angio and stenting be done or is it unsafe? What is the safest level of creatinine if person had a heart attack 15 days ago?

HIgh creatinine: With a creatinine (c) of 1.8 mg/dl, you have some chronic kidney disease (ckd). There is some potential for you to have some temporary impairment of your kidney function (kf) due to the dye used in the angio procedure. Discuss your c level with your cardiologist to see how you should proceed and with what precautions. Any impairment of your kf will probably be temporary, if it occurs. Good luck. ...Read more

Myocardial Infarction (Definition)

Myocardial Infarction means some of the heart muscle dies because of insufficient oxygen supply. Most often this occurs because the coronary artery is blocked by plaque & clot. Other causes include tears in the artery wall, extremely high oxygen demand (eg, rapid arrhythmia, heart valve disorder, or severe systemic illness.) Prompt treatment can minimize heart damage & ...Read more

My mother had a heart attack on friday. Can that cause an elevated creatinine level? She also went into dka, could that cause it?

My mother had a heart attack on friday. Can that cause an elevated creatinine level? She also went into dka, could that cause it?

No surprise: Not knowing what her creatinine is at usual baseline, years of diabetes can damage kidneys so this could be the result of her diabetes. She is very ill. Without knowing details, poor blood circulation because of heart attack and DKA could cause kidney damage that can sometimes improve, tho I don't know your mom's case. Dehydration cause could improve with hydration. Hope she quickly recovers. ...Read more

My cpr level is mildly elevated should I be worried about a heart attack?

CRP: High sensitivity c-reactive protein, a nonspecific market is systemic inflammation, is an independent predictor if adverse cardiovascular events. Not recommended for screening in general population. In patients with high risk factors, it may help prompt more aggressive treatment. Low levels may reclassify the same patient as a low risk. ...Read more

What are other reasons other than heart attack for increased level of troponin?

Any heart problem: Troponin is an enzyme released by damaged heart muscle. While the major cause is a heart attack, and large increases are usually due to this, almost any condition affecting the heart can cause small increases. Viral infections of the heart, pulmonary embolus or medial procedures such as angioplasty often result in increases of troponin. ...Read more

Husband has cholesterol levels over 1, 000 doctors saids he's at risk of a heart attack, is their something to lower the fat levels. Is that real high?

Cholesterol: A total cholesterol level of greater than 225 is considered high. There are medications that can be used based on what forms of lipids are elevated. Diet and exercise will also help. A level of 1000 is very high though you don't mention which form it is. Yes high cholesterol is a risk factor for a heart attack. Please have your husband see his doctor. ...Read more

How does a c-reactive protein level relate to the risk of heart attack?

Predicts risk: There are 5 major risk factors for coronary artery disease: cholesterol, smoking, hypertension, diabetes, and family history. The CRP could be considered a 6th risk factor. No crystal ball...: We can't predict who will have a heart attack, not even based upon LDL (bad) cholesterol & triglycerides. All we can do is estimate risk using medical calculators. Back in the day, we used Framingham risk score (http://cvdrisk. Nhlbi. Nih. Gov/) but since 11/13 we use Pooled Cohort Risk (http://my. Americanheart. Should I seek help from my cardiologist if I want to know my stroke and heart attack risk level?

Risk factors: A cardiologist or internist can help define your rsk profile by getting a history (family history, smoking, diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia), and arranging for a fasting lipid level. In high risk settings additional risk can be found with a lipid NMR study assessing non traditional risk factors such as lipoprotein particle size. Other risk factors, plac, crp, homocysteine could help. ...Read more

What are blood enzyme and troponin levels before, after, during a heart attack?

What are blood enzyme and troponin levels before, after, during a heart attack?

Normal, then elevated: Cardiac markers including ckmb and troponins measure damage to the heart muscle which occurs in a heart attack - the damaged/dying muscle will leak these into the serum which can be measured as blood tests. They start off "negative" - in the reference range - and then 4-6 hrs after the start of the heart attack they begin to rise - will eventually peak and over several days return to normal. ...Read more

My lp (a) level is 91.83, rest all lipids are in normal range. Am I at risk of stroke or heart attack.

Yes, but can lower it: Yes, lp (a) is an independent risk factor for heart attack ; stroke, so even if you have no other risk factors it increases risk. You can lower it some but even more importantly you can neutralize lp (a) with adequate doses of vit c, lysine ; proline. See http://www. Ayurveda-florida. I had a major heart attack and now have CHF. My oxygen was always in the 90's. Now my oxygen level has dropped to the 80's sometime. Is my CHF worse?

Could be: Could be that you are retaining fluid in your lungs and therefore your oxygen saturation is decreasing. You should be feeling more short of breath if this were the case. If someone is having a heart attack. Would the pulse oximeter show an oxygen sat level below normal range?

If someone is having a heart attack. Would the pulse oximeter show an oxygen sat level below normal range?

Not necessarily: If the heart attack is huge, the heart will not pump effectively and blood will not circulate normally, causing a low oxygen saturation. More commonly, the heart attack will be smaller and the heart will continue to pump effectively enough to get blood to the lungs and then to the body, keeping the oxygen saturation normal. ...Read more
